The above for me clears Levy. Spurs made the move. Mane wanted Liverpool.

So it was their chairman and not levy…

Sporting Lisbon’s president Frederico Varandas has revealed that Tottenham’s offer for Bruno Fernandes was rejected over doubts about the club’s potential to win major trophies.

The 25-year-old midfielder was linked with a host of top clubs during the summer following an exceptional 2018-19 campaign but surprisingly ended up staying with Sporting.

Tottenham seemed particularly interested in luring Fernandes away from the Portuguese capital after submitting an offer worth a potential €65m, however, Sporting rejected their approach.

Varandas has since confirmed that Sporting turned down Spurs’ offer as they were unconvinced the club could meet clauses related to winning the Premier League and Champions League.

In an official statement posted to the club’s website, Varandas said: ‘We have managed to hold on to our highest-value player, Bruno Fernandes, and have been able to provide balance and better solutions.

‘We think this group is more competitive and has more quality than last season. It was ‘impossible’ to retain Bruno Fernandes, but we did it.

‘We prepared for his sale by putting a fair price on him, and we had bids, but the only serious offer was from Tottenham and that was €45 million plus another €20m in bonuses for winning the Premier League and the Champions League.

‘Those are difficult objectives, so we chose not to accept. Bruno Fernandes proved to be not only a great player but a great professional and captain. The dignity and responsibility that he has always shown is exemplary.

‘The day I turned down Tottenham’s proposal, I came to the training ground and spoke to him. I told him why I declined the offer and why he would stay here beyond the end of the market and he understood perfectly.

‘In addition, he also understood that the bid they offered us was not fair. He’s not leaving, he’s a Sporting player. Many European clubs want him and we know this is something we will always have to deal with.’
Why do we have to always try to deflect from Mr Teflon. The above is from the official statement released by Sporting. We simply didn't make them a financial offer that they felt was appropriate, 6 months later Manchester United did.

I’m just literally saying what is said in the video

As Fernandes didn’t help utd win either the PL or CL maybe we were right to not go throwing money around on him.
There is no doubt he's a talented player, but he's not the right player for us.
It's just a pity we wasted the money we were to spend on him.

Who would know the details of the transfer negotiation, the chairman doing the deal or the player who only hears if its been accepted or rejected?

None of this is new. The reasons for why that transfer didn't happen have been known for years.
And who may have an agenda or want to put a positive spin on rejecting a bid.

Your Levy hate has your head spun round.

And it’s people like you that lead this club to brink of disaster with your “Levy out” bullşhit when he was probably the only one holding this club together.

Now we coffe and cake corner agent VV making the decision along with a couple of nepos and Fùnking Lange.

Ps if you don’t know the coffee and cake corner reference then read the latest athletic article it is some fûcking cringe worthy brick

I don’t regret not signing him at all, luxury player who does nowhere near enough defensively.

The interesting thing is I didn't put any spin on it either way. I didn't criticise Levy. I simply laid out the facts. We did not make Sporting a financial offer that they were willing to accept.

This has been known for 5 or 6 years at this point. You are so determined to defend Levy from what you perceived as a slight that you are trying to defend him from an attack that doesn't even exist.

If you think the problems this club have suffered from specifically this season but also the 4 seasons leading up to this one occured purely because Levy was no longer in charge from September the 1st 2025 than my friend I don't think you actually understand how complex organisations work and instead you are just so in awe of Levy you literally can't see the wood for the trees.

In simple terms the club's current standing didn't just happen this season it's been a slow and gradual degradation of it's playing staff. Season after season, poor decisions made and after poor decisions. Unlike you I don't sperate Levy from ENIC they are one and the same and together part of the bigger problem. But you keep thinking Levy was some hero despite his decisions directly being the cause of why we are where are.
