Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

GHod there are some ridiculous things that come from the modern game, these type of tactico posts being one of them. Literally nothing major either way to take from those videos, but loads of basement video editors sure find it............

I actually thought it was interesting insight! The calm on ball from defenders is an obvious one that we would likely expect knowing about De Zerbi, but the locking rather than moving point with the striker is not something I would have necessarily thought about had I not seen it highlighted.

You could stop a minute video of any training session of the last 20 years and make it look like something significant.

The freedom thing is so interesting. It’s the sort of freedom I wish they were able to give Poch. But they’ve given it to RDZ, and again I like the strategic bet around it.

I really liked Jack Pitt-Brooke’s article on this a couple of days ago. That Spurs have gambled on an idea. And I’ve been saying very similar things. We need (the players especially) need something to buy into. Especially at Tottenham, especially not having the most money. We have to be bought in to something more. We had it with Poch and we had it with Ange and I think we’ll have it with RDZ, and that’s a good thing.

So giving him this freedom I think gives him the best possible chance of his idea being fully realised. It means the buck is going to have to stop with him, he’ll be more accountable and can’t place blame elsewhere, but he’ll also feel more committed. And that is what’s great about him sticking with us even if we go down. We are truly a big club, because no other relegated team outside the other big 6 could take a long view like that.

So I’m fairly happy with the decisions that have been made over the last week. I think moving away from ‘club signings’ that Levy deems good value to actually trusting in someone that really knows football and backing his vision is a good thing. Lange also is clearly not someone who drives an overall talent strategy for a club. He may well be a good head of scouting effectively but not someone the board should be trusting in. De Zerbi in terms of football knowledge and ideas probably is. And as long as we actually back him, I think we’ll be ok long term.

Two questions will be: do we actually back him? He can’t demand City level players or wages, but with our looser wage structure my hope is that our backing of him is good enough.

And does his personality combust too soon to realise the long term value we wanted to get out of him? I hope not. Hard to know.

The Lange angles are interesting. On one hand Spurs fans assume he's not got the personality type to lead player transfer negotiations. On the other they clearly see him as senior enough to select managers. For me, we can't have it both ways.

What I can categorically say is that Lange's job would be infinitely easier if we could just find a manager who fits Spurs philosophy and he can then got on with mapping everything he does around this manager. How can you have a talent strategy when you bounce from Ange to Frank to Tudor to RDZ? That is like pushing water up hill.

I'd really be interested to see the roles and responsibilities of these guys and have a deeper insight into how they operate on a daily basis. We obviously won't as we're just fans.

Reading between the fuzzy lines, I have a feeling the RDZ was first choice for a while. Perhaps even as Ange walked through the door. Perhaps even earlier than that.

It's just part of the monster that is PL/top level football in the modern age - can't blame people for trying to make a bit of a name for themselves and some money off the back of it - so much content pumped out by clubs & leagues that there's a constant supply of things to add your own spin to.

I do get it, but its all abit of a wash, I mean I dont think ive seen reaction to a new manager videos where they havent had really OTT positive stuff to say and everyone gets suckered into it.

Like no one ever goes "looks sh1t" with these early videos only for it to often be sh1t hahaha

Playing to the gallery innit - new manager/new signing & people want the positive takes, they want to be told this is the manager who's going to change your fortunes and that the new signing is going to fit straight in and rip it up.

Then when you're in a bad spot it's all "this is why the manager is wrong and has to go" etc - because that's what people want to hear

I see your point mate, but In fairness, this is an even more unique situation than usual though, what with the baggage-stuff and pre-appt debates, in terms of the club being proactive in advancing the 'frame/debate' I think these videos are actually very smart.

Exactly, why concentrate on the coaching that's being done in clear sight for the 1st time in 2 seasons when we can talk about his comments on Greenwood 24/7 instead, maybe he should have them all sat on the ground telling them all how sorry he is for comments at Marseille, the players might not become better footballers but better people

Says the guy who was only posting about it yesterday

It’s an interesting point on Lange. He probably gets a lot of stick for having to work under a football strategy that goes from one extreme to the other. And then the squad is currently looking worse because there’s nothing unifying them. And he gets blamed for the quality, which I think is unfair.

But unfortunately, he was also the guy who advocated for Frank, and couldn’t see the issue of going from Ange to him. And I think for that he does deserve huge criticism.

I'll accept it might be because I've not seen us "play" for a couple of weeks

But I feel slightly more confident of staying up watching the clips from training with him in charge
There is an encouraging sense of energy and focus that appears to have been missing. Not that I have watched a huge amount of either Tudor or Frank's training sessions, but what I did see appeared rather casual by comparison. I had quietly formed the impression there was quite a bit of jogging and larking about involved. Of course, that might have been deliberate and just designed not to give anything away (whatever you say, say nothing), but from my position of knowing next to nothing about what's actually going on, I find myself feeling little twinges of optimism. I expect that to last right up until the first goal goes in up the wrong end on Sunday week at the Stadium of Pitch Dark.
