Interim manager thread 2.0

I must be the only person who thinks bringing in Dyche would be even more madness piled on top of all of the madness that’s come before it.

Tudor has been a terrible appointment but we need stability. If the decision is that he can’t provide that after his Dad’s death then that’s a different story. But it’s not going to take too much to keep us up. Time to stick this one out.

Hmmm. We’ve only won twice in what 23 matches? It’s possible we don’t win another game this season — I personally think it’s going to take a mini miracle to keep us up, but good to see some optimism I suppose :)

It's not going to take much though? A couple of wins should do it -- that's true for any team. We won't go the rest of the season without winning.

True, however based on our form we need another 20 matches for a couple of wins…and we just lost 3-0 at home to a team in contention for worst team in the league.

Hopefully we beat Sunderland to prove me (and the stats) wrong, but our performance has to improve (quite a lot).

We don't have the players to pull off Dyche-style football to be honest. Frank was a Dyche-style. If Davies was available i'd say Davies and Danso could form a bit of an old skool low block centre-back pairing you could maybe have a chance. VDV, Romero, Udogie, Porro, Dragusin, Spence. They are all more comfortable in a high-possession, high-line, front-foot system. De Zerbi would make the most sense from a football perspective.

I would be delighted with De Zerbi but it sounds like he is not prepared to take it before the summer - which is obv too late.

I’m unconvinced by the ‘Spurs DNA’ argument when it comes to Mason, Redknapp, Sherwood etc. Redknapp & Sherwood have been out of the Prem too long now and the game has changed too much since they last managed.

The unique beast that is the Prem is the reason I wouldn’t go for a Hutter or similar now too. The standard and intensity of the Prem is too big a shock for coaches without experience of the league, as we’ve seen with Tudor. And we don’t have time to ‘bed in’ anyone new.

By a process of elimination therefore, I’ve been reconciling myself to Dyche. Not a coach we would ever appoint in normal times maybe, but someone who knows the Prem and its lower reaches very well and is capable of motivating players and grinding out results. He might be the most rational and achievable appointment for these 7 games.

I wonder if this international break throws up some interesting alternatives too though. Craig Bellamy, a fine and modern coach who knows the Prem, now has no World Cup to prepare for and nothing meaningful to do between Tuesday night and June. Would the Welsh FA be open to him helping us out for 2 months, maybe with his Welsh stalwart Ben Davies as his assistant? Bellamy knows the Prem and its players and standards and looks to me like an excellent motivator and preparer of teams.

There’s every chance Graham Potter will be finished with the Swedes from Tuesday night too, if they fail to qualify for the World Cup. He knows the league too.

Finally - and hear me out! - I know no-one would welcome Southgate as a permanent appointment. But as a man-motivator and a cajoler of talented misfits into a coherent team capable of grinding out narrow wins - are there many better options out there? He is used to taking players for short stretches of games like the one we have ahead of us and is expert in impacting the psychology of a playing squad. And while he may be reluctant, who’s to say an offer of £15-20m for getting 8-10 points from 7 games - a life-changing offer - wouldn’t change his mind?

Anyway, just options - we have some, at least - money buys us those.

All did alright in Ange 2.0 push for EL glory....which isn't far off the exact tactics people are suggesting and probably the exact tactics we need to employ in the last 7 games. Defensively tight...stack of energy and nick a goal to win a game

I think changing the manager again now would likely be more detrimental than positive, we already made the mistake in changing the manager too late when we brought Tudor in. Yes, we probably picked the wrong guy. But I don’t think there is now a ‘right guy’ that would be prepared to join us.

We now need to just get behind the manager and the team and hope that we can somehow get the 10 points or so that we need.

I generally agree.

Spurs DNA is poison imo.

Bellamy is as much of a clam as De Zerbi though.

I agree on Southgate, what he did with England was miraculous.

Now what do VV and Lange do? I don’t trust them to make the right call. They relied on the choice of the departed Paratici last time, reports are the Nepos are staying out of choosing. Two people who probably know they won’t be here next season being allowed to choose the man to save us. Sad state of affairs

Well..at least we know now that it WILL be a new manager. My money is on Dyche or Southgate...be happy with either but Southgate would shade it as he will have more authority....

Oh come on. I don't want to continually come across (and feel) ungrateful and denegrate the success Ange and the players brought us.

BUT...I'm continually compelled to pull people's heads out of the sand.

There is a clear difference in standard between what you can get away with in EL games and what you can get away with in the PL.

Even this season we did well in the Champions League before we came up against real quality.

Most of the teams we played in the Europa were Championship or League One standard at best. Even the final was against an equally struggling opponent.

I imagine we will go with Dyche.

I don’t see where else we go, I think burying their heads in the sand for such a long time and ignoring the perilous situation has painted the board in to a corner.

We’re in the market for someone who will take it till the end of the season, offer them a big bonus payable if we stay in the league.

In summer, we need massive surgery that I’d be amazed if we got it all done, but it needs to include binning Vinai, Lange, multiple squad members, and depending on the results of a proper investigation into our injury situation potentially a load of medical staff. Hopefully it also includes the owners firing themselves into the sun too.

Doesn’t matter what style we play, we just have to remain in the league.
