Igor the Interim

I wonder if the death of his father will actually give Tudor the determination and even more resolve to try and keep us up? He appears to be a decent and honourable guy, and I could see a scenario where he feels that given this is a 7 game job now, he would not want to leave before giving it his absolute hardest shot.

I have to say, he does learn from his mistakes, whether in formation or decisions, and if we take the calibre of performances over the last few games (yes, even the disastrous ones), generally we are looking better (not difficult I concede). With a few others due back in the break, and the players seemingly absolutely not downing tools in protest of him, I have to seriously wonder what change could be any better unless the club are hiring a long-term manager.

Let me say this; if they were to hire De Zerbi, with the option of a release in his contract should he go down, then I'd be fudgeking livid. Besides the fact I think the guy's a total w anker...

Is he learning though, VDV for example has been terrible lately yet randomly gets stuck in at left back. Then 2 random subs at half time, changing the formation constantly. Dropping Xavi after a great performance and 2 goals etc.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, when a team is low on confidence best thing to do is keep it simple. Put players in their natural position and you might see something different happen.

To be fair, a few people were calling for VDV to be played at left back. Also, when you have a player that is low on confidence, it might be a good idea to stick him into a winning side and... I wouldn't say a lot of people expected us to beat Forest, but we were certainly more optimistic than we'd been for a long time going into this game.

Agree. For me he has done the opposite of learning. I was worried as soon as I saw the team on Sunday. Xavi scores two and has a great game against Atletico and then...benched? Unfair on him and sends a poor message to the rest of the squad.

I feel for Igor given his personal circumstances, but he has been a disaster of an appointment. 1 point from a possible 15 as a 'short-term specialist' is just...awful. His lack of PL knowledge and experience has been plain to see.

Yeah i have seen enough of an improvement in overall performances (if not necessarily results) to think that getting rid would be a huge gamble. I meaning sticking with is also a huge gamble. That is what the club are left with now - stick or twist with our PL fate on the line. Should have binned Frank off in December and smashed January window out the park to get players in suited to Tudor's system

This is where I think we don't have the players available to field a keep it simple, put players in their natural positions team. Thus him trying different solutions. No real right wing option that can be trusted so he tries different solutions.

In that mix is also the point that some players for (probably different reasons) can't be trusted to put in a performance and him (imo sensibly) trying to get as many of the players that can be trusted with a decent to good performance in the team even if it's at the expense of keeping it simple and playing players in their natural positions.

Yeah this was Poch's approach too, Gray and Sarr are the only midfielders available that you can actually trust to follow instructions amd put a decent performance in, so a bit like Mason and Bentaleb they are in over the experienced heads and expensive signings like Gallagher.

VDV is being moved out more to left back as he can't be trusted at CB but does give you some recovery pace and drive forwards at times.

Might be too little too late and some of his calls have gone wrong (HT subs v Forest were in hindsight a poor call), but i certainly can see the method/thinking unlike half the time under Frank where you're coming away from a game thinking "can't see what the game plan was there today other than roll over and lose"

Agreed, can understand the thinking. And of the recent performances we had 70 good minutes away to Athletic, a good 90 against Liverpool, a good 90 against Athletico and a good 45 against Forrest.

Can understand the calls for a change, but there are some positive signs and someone else starting for scratch would be another gamble. Keeping him would also be a gamble. Gambles are all we have left.
