***OMT Tottenham Hotspur Football Club v Nottingham Forest***

It's not just you.
It is Porro though.

That said, he isn't full back. In a 4 he's a square peg in a round hole. Three CBs is supposed to mitigate against FBs being an attacking outlet.
Personally, aside from Brazil, I've never seen it work. It's a tactic that works when you have the best players, but not beneath that
He is abysmal as a defender, always has been

Went to great efforts to avoid the score at work today as I'd promised my daughter I'd watch the game with her without knowing the score. I kind of thought we'd lost going by people's reactions to me when I told them not to say anything but of course didn't want to believe it.

Unbelievable really. Every time we think we've turned a corner and all that.

Looks like we were shafted by the officials again. Not that that's an excuse for what followed after but still. Must be the only team in the league to not win a penalty this season?

Had a moment of realisation and acceptance around 80 minutes. I’ve said it for a while, but it just suddenly seemed deeply true that these players aren’t good enough.

Some don’t have the basic skills needed to keep us up (Vicario, Sarr, Spence, Richi, Solanke); some don’t have the right mentality (Van de Ven, Porro, Xavi, Romero): which leaves Gray and Danso.
Been there a good while. We have a load of bang average players. They get overrated because they have pulled on a spurs shirt.

The failure with them to do basics is scary at times.

Losing Kulu and Maddison was massive this season. Both do have some genuine attacking quality.

Our strikers 120ms worth of mediocre.

We brought some youngsters but that’s no good if you’ve not got established quality to bed them in with.

I remember Sherwood called out Porro early doors for being a poor defender. He was spot on.Fans had a bit of a moan about him saying it . Good going forward but average defender.

Got a squad full of it.

With all due respect there was the biggest call to arms today ive ever seen, everyone showed up and the fans went above and beyond

We lost 3 nil

We should have done it way earlier than this

For all my shade the fans have shown up, the players havent
I agree with you.

And the total and utter lack of fight, interest and investment from the players was summed up by our CLUB CAPTAIN sitting on his arse for 30 seconds in the forward right position after thinking he was fouled, before slowly dragging himself up and ambling back to his position.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a clearer indication that the players don’t give a monkeys.

I've put it in the Romero thread

I have been saying this for ages and initially when i was saying that Romero and VDV were poor people were laughing at me. Just because Romero can ping a pass and VDV can run fast up the pitch with a ball doesn't make them good CBs. Neither are good defenders. Porro is a converted wing back and both Spence and Udogie started out as wing-backs too.

NONE of our backline's strengths lies in basic one-on-one defending, positioning, marking, ariel duals.

You go into midfield you run into the same problem: none of our midfielders are brilliant passers bar Maddison who hasn't seen the light of day this season.

And up top, none of our forward's strengths are end product/scoring.

So you have an ENTIRE SQUAD built right, which is a fudging failure upstairs BTW, an ENTIRE SQUAD, who are NOT good at the BASICS.

Our players have strengths, right. Some of them will be being watched by other clubs. Many will get good moves this summer if the worst happens.

But we have defenders that aren't great at defending, midfielders that aren't great at passing and forwards that aren't great at scoring.

Its a lethal combination. Whatever the individual attributes of our players, as a collective, as a team, its been a disasterclass for 2 years.

74 points from our last 76 league games.
4 wins, 7 draws, 19 defeats from our last 30 home league games.
2 wins in our last 22 league games.

Since October 2024 our form at nWHL has been so utterly atrocious that we’ve actually picked up fewer PL points at home than both Leeds and Sunderland in that time :flushed:

19th Won 5 Drawn 7 Lost 18 For 42 Against 57 Diff -17 Pts per Game 0.73

TBH I’ve got no fudging idea what he said.

Some drivel about thanking the fans was all I could make out. Oh and several references to cup finals.

He has increasingly become a significant part of the problem. I don’t think he merits a place in the team. And as for being Captain, that is a truly ludicrous decision.

Leadership comes in many forms and guises. Some leaders are quiet, some are loud, some are demonstrative. I’m yet to meet the leader that inspires his troops to go over the top by sitting on his arse and waving his arms around.

No they aren't, I can only assume you haven't watched them lately. They haven't even scored a goal in their last four PL games....
Ive watched a fair bit of them this season and they have been massively hard done by in many a game

In those 4 games 2 were draws and 1 defeat was City.

I can only assume you havent watched them and are just stat watching

I've watched plenty of them thanks, they're energetic but from a footballing perspective I simply dont agree with you.

We're at the business end of the season and they are struggling to score goals, something that historically doesn't bode well when it comes to relegation and were absolutely dire yesterday.

Considering how brick we perceive ourselves to be I don't see how a team a whole 3 points above are much different....

Because they came up in the summer, they are losing games by the odd goal not being hammered at home. Because for better or worse they have stuck by a manager who has done well by them in their own context. And because like I say, in many games they have been hard done by.

In their journey they are doing what they need to

The fact either of us are comparing our situation with them is a massive issue for us....not them
