The "If we go down" thread

Thoughts on how will players like Van de Ven, Romero, Porro, Vicario be looked at as returning players in 20 years time if relegated would it ruin the legacy built in Bilbao?

I think it's gone already. I was trying to fight my anger at Mickey's stupidity last night because I kept thinking of that goal line clearance but no fudge him, he's had a bad attitude for months.
The rest......meh.

Yep, just inexplicably dumb. And it’s a real shame, but how can both our captains and supposed ‘best players on the team’, ‘only real world class players’ do what they did? They aren’t up for this fight,

And GHod, what shame about the legacy of Bilbao and these players potentially being the ones to take us down. Because the big motivation of that win was getting their pictures on the walls of the stadium. How did we manage to throw it all away in less than a year?

Well, the long-term benefit is the investment tanks and the owners probably have to sell.

On my end, I suppose it will be harder to catch the games in Canada, but there's always a way in the modern world - will still be sat there on the weekend, laughing, yelling with joy, or shaking my head, as it always has been. Life's too short to change how I love this club, just because of the division we're in. :)
Amen brother.

It's got to the point where this series of disastrous decisions whether from players or the board would, if you deliberately tried to construct that sequence, be almost impossible to pull off. Madness. sexy!!

OK doomsters, I've decided that we're staying up. Started the thread but now realise that if we can get through 90 minutes without getting one of the team sent off, we WILL get the points we need, starting with the visit of Nottingham Forest. Rest easy, we've got this!
They will be up for it, we won’t. We don’t have the stomach for the fight.

Hope you’ve got enough of whatever you’re smoking for the rest of us!

It’s not a legacy.

That competition was a joke last season, was fantastic to qualify for the CL, but heralding it as some kind of glory was nonsense.

The glory in football is in consistent challenge at the top of the game.

I’d give that trophy back for a top 5 finish this season in a heartbeat.

Without getting too philosophical...since I've started watching football well over 120 clubs have played in the professional leagues in England and we're just one of six that have never suffered a relegation in that period. Of the other 5 Chelsea had yo-yo'd during the early 80s and have only been sustainable since 2003 because of an oligarch.

Within those teams to have been relegated at least seven I've thought about have gone out of business entirely and reformed as phoenix clubs and countless others have endured worst existential crisis than we went through in 1991.

Relegation would be a humiliation and an entirely avoidable disaster and I'm genuinely losing sleep over the prospect of it...but we'd get over it and possibly come out better the other side.

Take away the banter & humiliation and a year in the Championship has a lot to offer as an experience.

After the last two years I think I'd prefer a reset than an endless circling of the drain year after year. Like pulling off a plaster theres something to be said for getting it over and done with as quick as possible.

There’s an assumption there that we’d bounce straight back up and while that’s likely, it’s by no means a certainty and we shouldn’t talk like it is

Yeah i guess there is that assumption in the post - I would say if we aren't good enough to bounce straight back then we aren't good enough to stay in the league so it'll happen eventually anyway so meh

Well if we went down our starting 11 first day of next season would be vastly different to if we stay up so need to take that into account

After reading your post I checked on Leeds who got relegated in 2004 and I bet a large proportion of their fans thought they’d bounce straight back. They eventually came back to prem in 2020 so 16 years incl 3 in league one

Not saying that will happen to us but in no way is relegation anything but a disaster

I agree we need a reset which has to happen relegation or not
