Andy Robertson

I think it was Mourinho who said he tried to build his team with as many captains as possible. The days of Terry, Carvalho, Lampard, Drogba (I'm sure there were more) all in one team certainly brought a level of authority and success.

Maybe we an add one more in the spine of the team.

If it goes ahead how does this effect our CL squad numbers , Robertson is not Association trained he's from a foreign country Scotland :)

He likely doesn't get CL

Tel & Gallagher I'd assume are 2 of our 3 changes allowed for knockout stages, with all the midfield injuries we might have to add back Biss

Makelele, Cech gudjohnsen come to mind straight off.b

I think one Robbo factor is that his stats may have reduced year on year and there are no recent major injuries of note that would be the root cause. Therefore the root cause can only be age. He has put in a massive shift in his career.

I just think bed blockers harm all parties.

Sign young, or at peak, but never those declining
Several of the best players we've ever developed have had to overtake others in the process. Having more experienced players who can be trusted to do a job for a year or two shouldn't imo be seen as a bed blocker for a 19 year old fresh off the plane from Brazil. If Souza breaks through in 1-2 years he's still young.

Sometimes having to play young players more than they're actually ready for can be detrimental for their development too imo. We must have a manager that will trust and play young players enough even if there is an older player in the squad who could play.

Wouldn’t we simply swap him for Davies as UEFA considers Welsh players as overseas, the same as Scottish players?

Wow, Souza must have really bombed in his first training!

Robertson feels like Davies a year younger. Seems a bit unnecessary, unless its a 1 year deal to cover Souza going to the championship next season?
Wouldn’t have been surprised at Souza going out on loan for the rest of the season even before this development. A 19yo described as a “raw talent” with zero experience playing in Europe and you think he’s ready for first team football in the PL?

Think we had the French WC winning captain, England captain, Belgium captain, Wales captain and S Korea captain at one point?

Could not agree more.👍

Leadership issues? The issue with Spurs is not leadership!!

Given we are fans and not professional coaches (apologies if you are actually Conte in disguise) I suspect the management of the club know what they need. Leadership on the pitch has been an issue for a while. We've had some inspiring footballers - Sonny, Kane, Bale, Lloris but none of them have really been etched in blood leaders - they have been quieter in their way of leading. Right now we have a captain who doesn't speak good English so I will take two British players in Robertson and Gallagher who step up and lead from the front.

This is all before you consider that Robertson is a fantastic full back also.

Good to give Udogie some genuine competition too. I think there’s another level to his game which we haven’t seen yet. He has the potential to be of the very best LBs in the world if he can maintain his fitness.

I think Davies was happy being a backup but Robertson will push for a starting position.

Davies is not an overseas player he is English FA association trained, all Welsh clubs who play in English leagues are technically English clubs not Welsh.
Basically if a Welsh player comes through an academy at clubs like Swansea, Cardiff etc they are local Associaton trained i.e the English FA , if they come through the academy of a smaller club in Wales that does not play in an English league then they are not local association trained but come under the Welsh FA rules unless they join an English club when they are under 21 but it is all too complicated.
What is not clear from UEFA rules is can we name more than 3 new players as one of the previously registered players i.e Davies now has a severe injury .

He is not homegrown for those wondering. Joined Hull at 20yo.

I don’t mind the signing. Ideal world yes we go and spunk £60M on whoever the best early 20’s LB is but we’ve already done that. Do a search on Transfermarkt for LB’s aged 21-27 and Udogie is the 6th most valuable on the list. Robertson & Udogie can rotate at LB which should help Udogie to remain fit and Spence & Porro at RB. In 18 months time we have Souza who will probably go out on loan to come in. This is now a position we don’t have to worry about for a long time.

Its a postive link, because it shows the managment team are aware of our weak mentality during games. The lack of leadership, and how we let momentum drift in games has been apparent for some time. Under Ange the naivity of our players were so clear. We need players who'll recognise shifts in momentum during games, and take action. Players who can have a word with a younger player to give them a lift, or settle them. Players who can talk to refs, or advise players in training, and back them up.

For me, it is another sign that Frank is on the right long-term track.

Now idk if Robertson is any good, or if we need his footballing skills (probably). But it is clear we need more leaders and players who will take charge.

The other thing it signals is Spence has a future further forward, and we need him playing there right now. Maybe the managment team have concluded we won't sign a winger this window, and will use Spence.

If we somehow get back into Europe next season it’s going to be 50+ games the ideal is you have Udogie playing 60% and coming off with 20 mins and then the other way for the remaining games. Same for Porro & Spence.

I thought Welsh players were considered homegrown by the PL but not by UEFA. Is that not correct anymore?
