Seems pretty obvious to me, that if you run a player into the ground e.g. playing 95 95 95 95 every few days, they will get an injury that forces them out for months.

Far better to play them less and play a "worse" player for parts of those games, so they don't get that drastic injury. There is always an option.

Frank had the option to play Paulhinha instead more often, he also had the option to not play the two of them together as much.

Unfortunately, another serious injury for him, the fact he never got back to the player he was pre-injury for Conte, and age, means we will probably move him on in summer.

This for me as well, untill he started picking up a few imjurys he was a very good player for us. Sadly as you say he will probably never get back to his best because of those injurys.

Thing is, Palhinha is towards the end of his career and his minutes need managing more than most. There's probably been some data driven reasons why Palhinha has played the minutes he has.

We've been operating with 2 very senior centre mids and 3 young centre mids. This is where having a 25 year old like Gallagher might give us a better balance. Hopefully he's robust enough to take on a high burden.

Personally, I think this is about the end for Bentancur as a serious option in our midfield. He might last until next January before rolling off the roster. Most likely it will be the summer.

The way Palhinha plays I'm not surprised he needs a rest. Probably needs protecting from himself as he absolutely gives everything.

I read that Palinha has played a relatively low number of games for a player of his age which should mean he is able to continue playing for longer before seeing a tail off

I'm never sure on these data points. You just can't tell when the slow down happens to the body at that age. He's 6'3" as well. He's a big lad to be dragging his body around the park in centre mid. I actually think he'll end up a centre half.

Saying that, as we inevitably drop out of the CL, Palhinha will be mostly on a game a week schedule. That will help his body for at least this season.

Wow is he 6ft 3....I thought he was a joe average 5 11' ...6 ft max

Related; apparently Man Utd will play the fewest games since 1915 or something i.e. 40 games as we knocked them out of Europe in Bilbao, and they got knocked out of both cups straight away, which could mean some unhappy players that are not overtired, become available to us e.g. McTominay was always going to be a superb player and Napoli benefitted from their stupidity.

Since December 1st and excluding injury time as the numbers never go above 90, he played 90 65 59 90 90 90 90 86 and then his leg popped.

I would say that's Bentancur's lot. I cannot see him coming back from this.
Its only a muscular pull isnt it. Im sure he'll be fine. He might follow Paratici to Fiorentina in the summer, if they avoid relegation. But i still think he'll have a role for us during April and May, especially if Biss isnt reintegrated

yeah was clear as daylight, however we were losing games in the last minutes...so can understand the need to have the best players on UNTIL WE WIN ONE.

i understand the injury situation - however it just shows how bad we were in the last transfer window.
perhaps something was up as Levy eventually left,
well at least we are off to a good start with two very obvious replacements - LB and midfielder who can attack and offloading veliz and johnson who clearly weren't in TF's plans.

vinai will earn his credibility in this and next window.
