Thomas Frank - Head Coach

5th going into the break, even if the table is extremely tight, has to be considered a good thing.

The bull case for the season is that Frank is starting to get more comfortable with the squad, who he can trust, and has learned more about how to get results at home. If we can maintain the principles in the away performances, improve our home form, and get more comfortable with the game plan specifics for the bigger games, we will do ok.

To be 5th when it is clearly so obvious the manager is still settling in is a good sign. I hope we maintain the away form as if so, we could end up having a really good season. And maybe the Christmas period will be good for us with players back, and perhaps we can create some distance in the table then.

Back to Thomas Frank for a min...I think his reaction to the CFC debacle has been very encouraging. He has shown he will adjust, and he has shown he will break free of 'safety first' football in the selection. Kudos to him (albeit I wish he'd started with Udogie and Spence today BUT he knows more about where Destiny is at than I do)...I hope we go to the Deathstar to play, and I hope we look to continue playing with Pahlinha and two 8s. I think Frank will want strength and physicality that day, so I can see Richy on the left again. But again, if we go with intent (smart intent) to play as opposed to take a safety first horseshoe of fear approach, that would be development in my view...
A bit nit picky on my part perhaps. But didn't look much like Palhinha and two 8s against United to me. Sarr playing very much a deep role, few of his trademark attacking runs, particularly in the first half. To me looked like more of the same to what we've seen recently, only with Sarr as one of the deep two.

Also a rather cautious first half imo. But, as it has been recently, some positive signs of trying to play through the middle - sometimes even rather promisingly so. But rather dependent on Romero.

I hope we see a return of the Palhinha Bentancur midfield duo against Arsenal. Overall I think Bentancur has been better than Sarr in that role, particularly recently when the handbrake has come off a bit. Think it was more a rotation thing than a tactical move to bring Sarr in against United.

I think the difference in our last three performances has been more about how good the opposition has been.

Very much so
One team pressed us and we died
The next team didn’t even turn up and we smashed them
The last team weren’t great but had capable players and took the chances they had

Personally I'd say Jan was a better footballer than any of them.
Romero imo is up there. And some similarities in their style on the ball.

What we had with Toby and Jan were two quality ball playing centre backs, different qualities on the ball, but both really good. We haven't had many of those partnerships over the years. Part of what made that team work so well despite some shortcomings on the ball and creatively deep in midfield.

I don't think Romero would be able to play well as a full back. Jan was a superb full back (often played there for Belgium).

I think its great to have such a strong CB pairing, whats gone is gone, Jan and Toby were excellent, but we have two very good CB pairing now. We also have depth which is nice.

Frank needs ST option, ideally a top level LW (but I don't see it as we have invested in Tel and Ode) LB and a Keeper as Vicario is a liability at times

Could not agree more, i am amazed at some of the criticism that has been thrown our way by some fans. New manager, new players and lots of injurys [ once again] and its a work in progress [ and the early signs are its still has some way to go]

To be where we are at this time is showing progress [imo] and instead of slagging off managers and players we should be getting behind the team and manager. Of course Stop! Hammer time and everyone has the right to be dissapointed but there has to be some reality in the situation we are in.

There is no doubt that our form last year was poor to say the least but IMO there have been signs this season that we are making progress. Will Frank be successful who knows but for fudges sake lets not talk about changing YET AGAIN to another manager.

Now i know some will disagree [which is their right to do so] but i amazed that after such a short time we as fans are expecting more allready.

I don't see anyone looking for a manager change or anybody expecting to walk the league, think most are fair in their expectations. Nothing wrong with being critical of what goes wrong, once it's balanced with the praise for what goes right.

So are you telling me that you have not heard any criticism of Frank at the games.

Do you think the moaning at games about the manager not being up to the job is ok then.
People moan all the time, it's human nature, doesn't really impact anything. It's the booing of the players that I'd have more of an issue, not moaning about the manager. And I thought you were referring to in general rather than specifically at games.
