Kota Takai

How tall is he? I saw some highlights of him versus CR7 and he seemed to handle the crosses rather well. I think height is a little overrated for defenders to be honest. Leap is more important. Loon at VDV hes 6,4 but pretty rubbish in the air.
6’4
Not sure how people think he is short
Edited @Bishop to reflect what the club have put on the press release
And your right about VDv… jumps like a brick
Luckily he moves like cat

Is this a Bergvall / Gray type signing straight in to the first team squad, or more of a Veliz / Yang level who’ll need a couple of loans?

Feel like that's a lack of aggression like Crouch.

Probably depends on a few things.
How he looks in pre -season.
Squad numbers, squad places.
CH numbers.
How he matches up against our other CHs.
TFs gut feeling.

When @tw12yid said "bit short at centre back" he was implying ironically that we have a lot of centre backs, not that Takai is short

I think we can now ask that same question of Phillips, Vuskovic and Takai but probably less so Dorrington.

I'm just not sure how you keep the first 3 happy in the same squad with 4 or 5 other senior centre halves in play.

It's definitely gonna be interesting sitting back and watching what evolves though. Nice problem to have right?

Welcome. Seems like a real talent.

Will be interesting to see what Frank makes of our young talents at CB and if any of them are included in the first team squad this season.

They won't all be here by the start of the season. Will be a couple out on loan. Would be a big step up from a few games at Aberdeen for Dorrington.

The Japanese international joined the club this summer but is yet to make a competitive appearance because of a foot issue he picked up just weeks after joining.

Frank said: “So he’s still not training on the pitch, hopefully soon. I don’t know when he will be back, he’s not training. I’ll come back to that on Friday so I’m sure I’m saying the right thing.”

Takai joined Spurs from Kawasaki Frontale and Frank has been impressed by what he has seen from him when he has trained so far.

“Everyone in the squad is competing for minutes,” he said. “I like what I saw in the first few weeks he had at the club.

“Of course, he just came straight from Japan and competed, so I like what I saw, everyone is competing.”
