Indeed - I think the constraints will be the same too, but there’s a really clear way that Levy operates within those constraints that we have seen play out for 20+ years.

It would be interesting to see how someone else would interpret those constraints. What decisions they might make differently, how they think about what advantages they can create. Or is it literally just a new front man? I’m very interested to see how it plays out.

I think it might just be that VV will be a friendlier face, whether that be to fans, media, investors etc.
Levy has had to be rhino skinned and laser focused to get us where we were. To have such a long term vision and not be knocked off course is gonna take quite a bit of fighting your corner. Simon Jordan has a nice descriptive phrase for DL...'he never complains and never explains'. And that is so true.

But, DL has completed his vision, so as a club we don't need to operate in the hard nosed rhino skin way DL was. A new friendlier face can reset relationships (not saying DL is not friendly, he had to do what he had to, but he gained a reputation).

But as you say, the constraints are there. Tbh the football success (,or not) is going to be gained below this level with the d of f, Lange and the manager...and the decisions they make.
And those decisions will all be made within the constraint of budget, a constraint that ain't changing much (or ironically only changed by how successful THEY are in tournament prize money)

So I very rarely talk about my father because he was aggressive & violent until I turned 16. My father said it was about making us tough for the big bad world. The thing is I never met his parents even though they were alive because my father refused to talk to them. I assume he got the same treatment from his father. Luckily the three of us broke that chain

At my mother's funeral my eldest brother confronted my father his response I made you tough so you could survive this world. My brother pointed out that was a load of gonads & did he regret that he no relationship with his son's he replied that's your problem not mine. At his own funeral only my sister went. I wish I had buried the hatchet & told him despite everything we had been through he was still my father he had done the right thing by my mum & sister & for that I loved him

Sounds like some terrible experiences. Trying to think what that must have been like as a child and though both my imagination and empathy fail to fully understand it what I do understand creates both pain, sadness and anger on your behalf.

Hope you're doing well now, a massive congratulations on breaking that cycle. Generational trauma is a real thing and getting out of that often takes a lot.

Feel sorry for your dad too. Going through life with that kind of relationship to your own kids sounds awful. Not saying he didn't I need TP for my bunghole himself or you should have done anything different.

It’s funny, I don’t foresee anyone achieving what DL did, mainly because I think a 25 year tenure is now a thing of the past

Obviously if there's a significant cash injection that can change how we operate. But other than that?

I'm guessing we could see more "decisive" transfer business? Be willing to pay more (wages and transfer fees) and earlier to get deals done? For me a thing that could have both positive and negative consequences.

Then will be be interesting to see what happens the next time we want a different head coach/manager, DoF type. Those are for me the biggest decisions to get right (assuming VV won't be doing his own scouting either). How confident are people that we'll get them more right more of the time now?

Any other changes we should no on the lookout for?

Tiny variations in that if the 'spend what we earn' model continues.

More money ups the 'persuasion' all round in transfer deals.

Always look to have the best possible recruitment model by ensuring proper investment in talent. Poach people from other clubs who are renowned as being the best in the business instead of getting people just because they are cheap and/or available. Properly invest in data, scouting and pathways. Perhaps purchase a sister/feeder club to help with transfers and FFP.

Fully expect our spending overall to remain similar unless there's a cash injection, partial takeover or something like that.

Already this summer spending more on wages seems to be a thing, as it was always going to be imo.

Also hope we keep prioritising young players with big potential to some extent at least. Have a lot of them now, but it should never be ignored again.

I guess that's been a fairly consistent criticism of Levy? He's not a "football man" so he's unable to accurately evaluate which of the football men would be worth hiring and at what cost? Leading to poor recruitment of the people doing the footballer recruitment at times?

Interestingly an area where Levy was strong, but perhaps got bypassed over time by others? Early on the DoF model, getting people like Arnesen in. But then ended up with whatever the structure was until Paratici arrived.

What would you do if you were in charge? Lange seems to fit that "available" description, but I quite like our business with him here so far. Paratici as an advisor reportedly, but would probably want a clearer director role here or elsewhere.

Is VV more of a "football man"? To my knowledge a lot of clubs are very much hit and miss in those big appointments. Reasons to think we'll be better than most now?
 
Hopefully he relooks the high transfer budget and low wages model we have now. Id rather give more money to players than agents.
