Daniel Levy - Former Chairman

Wow. I did not see that coming. And I really hope the rumours about Levy not seeing it coming aren't true.

The media are reporting this as Spurs fans getting what we all want.

But as someone who's been largely pro-Levy, I'm more than a little sad. Levy has been synonymous with Spurs' progression from mid-table dross to part of a genuine Big 6. He was perhaps a Sissoko handball away from winning the biggest trophy of them all, and has always left a club that's in a great position to kick on and really push for the top.

Say what you will, but Levy always tried to do his best for the club financially, even if he might have been too conservative with player purchases and so on.

I really hope this isn't the precursor to some sportswashing takeover or, worse, some soulless Americans coming in.

I remember shortly before I went to university there was a season where we really looked like we were going down and had to win against Wimbledon to ensure safety.
Yeah, that would be 97/98, the season we brought Klinsman in to bolster our attack and rescue us from the drop. He did just that with a morale-boosting four goals away to Wimbledon that crucially reversed the downward momentum.

Game was at Selhurst park in the days when you could just ring up and get a ticket in the home section, Wimbledon couldn't fill the place.

You replied

I merely pointed out that's not the case.

There has been 3, 4 at a push if you include Blackburn who have since gone down to League 1 at one point and almost went bust.

Ok well it’s not none as the OP said but everyone seems to be happy with that statement as no one else has questioned it.

Honestly it’s a job, he did it to his best. Got paid very very well and that’s it.

You talk about Levy like an employee only. He was a 25.8% stakeholder.

He invested tens of millions into Spurs that has turned into a 25.8% share of a £4b asset. Even if you remove the £1b debt, he's probably turned £30-40m into £750m. On top of being the league's highest paid chairman, I'd say he's done rather well in life.

He rode the football money train very well unlike some of his peers. He grew his own wealth whilst growing our football club.

Very smart man.

Same page.

But it’s not just a job, he’s an owner, albeit a minority (but far from insignificant) shareholder and a friend of Lewis and family.
That’s why I find it hard to believe. I assume he knew the plans but maybe had the rug pulled from under him with it happening so suddenly.
I’m sure many many people have been on the other end of Levy’s dismissals to similar affect.

Difference is that he’s walked away laughing all the way to the bank due to his hard work and acumen

I’m afraid this of going to happen one day or another and we will all soon forget

As opposed to a soulless Brit in charge now 😀 I just want the best for the club. As long as they’re not criminals I don’t really care where they are from, I want the best and most qualified people for the job as in any walk of life.

As usual the media have got it wrong, spoken to a LOT of fans since the news broke and most of them think it is the wrong move.

We missed out on the Sky & CL boom in football finances due to (i believe) the fallout from Scholar and the Sugar years - which put us on the outside of the top 4 closed shop that developed - several other big traditional clubs in the same position fell by the wayside - all of which bar Everton suffered relegation(s) and in Evertons case they've spent two decades eseentially circling the drain - we had no given right to have not gone down the same path as these clubs and given that it's only through Oligarch or Petro-state backing that any club has jumped in front of us (and stayed there), i think that shows the job that has been done here over his time.

100% this. Any clubs not receiving the initial CL and Sky money were at a huge disadvantage, then two clubs getting Oligarch cheat mode made the gap even larger.

I can remember around 2004 (had a season ticket at the time) thinking it’s possible we’d never be in the CL in my lifetime. Yet 20 years later we’ve been in the CL more times that I can even quote here and were 90 mins from winning it. Crazy.

Think Levy did an amazing job & to also build the training ground and stadium (and let’s be honest boost our profile considerably) is incredible work. We just couldn’t compete with clubs that could literally spend £1bn on a team, not sure how that’s Levy’s fault.

Our peers were Aston Villa, Everton, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers. Thanks to Levy our sights are now much higher
