Arnaud Kalimuendo

Since I knew fudge all about this guy (he's 23)

AI view

Arnaud Kalimuendo is a dynamic striker known for his poacher’s instinct and sharp movement off the ball. He thrives in and around the box, often popping up in the right place at the right time to finish chances with clinical precision.

Here’s a breakdown of his style:

  • Positioning & Awareness: Kalimuendo has a knack for finding pockets of space in crowded areas, making him a constant threat inside the penalty area.
  • Speed & Agility: Though not the tallest forward, he uses his low center of gravity and quick acceleration to dart past defenders.
  • Link-Up Play: He’s adept at quick one-twos and combining with midfielders before making incisive runs behind the defense.
  • Finishing: Calm and composed in front of goal, he’s capable of both instinctive tap-ins and well-placed shots.
  • Work Rate: Off the ball, he presses defenders and contributes to the team’s defensive efforts.

As of the 2024/2025 season, Arnaud Kalimuendo has scored 18 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions for Rennes. Here's the breakdown:

  • Ligue 1: 17 goals in 33 matches
  • Coupe de France: 1 goal in 1 match
  • Total minutes played: 2,682
  • Goals per 90 minutes: 0.59
  • Goal contributions (goals + assists): 20
Arnaud Kalimuendo had a standout season in Ligue 1, finishing third in the 2024/2025 top scorers list with 17 goals for Rennes, behind Dembele and Greenwood (both at 21)

3rd highest goalscorer in Lique 1 last year, only behind Dembele and Greenwood. Apparently similar physical hold-up play attributes to Solanke (just shorter).
Some good year-on-year league goal numbers that seem to be steadily increasing.
Might be worth another punt...might

Where would you play him? Would a 5'9" lone forward work in the EPL, or would it need 4-4-2 to accommodate him?
Sergio Aguero is one of my favourite ever forwards and I'm sure he was not more than 5'9"
Not that I have any clue if this guy is similar to Aguero, simply to point to the fact that his height is not something to rule him out for.
If you're solid enough, then being smaller/more compact with a slightly lower centre of gravity can be used as an advantage.

Not sure what the difference between 5'9 and 6' would make if the ball is played to feet rather than hoofed 60 yards upfield.

Frank is big on crosses though no?

It just seems a bit of a square peg, when ideally we'd want a complete package (like Delap would have been) if we decide to twist with Richy.

I think Frank adapts depending on what he's got and what he views as the strengths of his players that he can exploit or hone.
Much more than simply being a 'cross the ball in' merchant.

Found this neat summary on reddit of his attacking adaptations while at Brentford. As I haven't got encyclopaedic knowledge of Brentford's play over the last few seasons, Ican't be sure it's wholly accurate, but it seems to ring true from my patchy recollections.
