Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

This is where we differ.
I don't write anything on here or any social media platform that I would not say to their face.
IMO the fact so many do is an enormous societal issue.

Yes, context is everything.
I disagree. I act all polite and respectful on here but if we were face to face, I'd give anyone who disagrees with me the beating of a lifetime. Then I'd drill a hole in each of their teeth (those left after said beating). Then I'd get a razor blade and slice them down into tiny bits, until the biggest one can pass through the small end of a pencil sharpener.

That's what I like about message boards... you can dream about being someone else...

Ok, say we win the EL, Ange somehow stays as manager, and we do some pretty good transfer business in the summer.

What will it take for Ange to win back the doubters and the Ange out crowd next season?

Somehow I have a feeling a few decent cup runs and us being on course to a fourth/fifth place finish with a bit more defensive solidity won't do it.

Do a good job

I hope you never do anything bad.

The WayBack machine will get you..:)

But that's exactly what everyone is hoping for from a new manager.

Why not? It would be a great achievement, whoever the manager is. The only thing I'd add on my wishlist is a sharp decrease in the number of injuries. However, it will never come to that: if he somehow stayed for next season - unlikely as that may seem - he'd have to make a great start. Let's assume he loses 4 or 5 of the first ten games (which is par for the course at the moment for him). It would take some serious faith from the board to keep him in the hotseat beyond that, regardless of what may or may not happen later on.

This would be the answer I would have typed for him or any other manager.

For a moment there I thought you were quoting @Mr Gogolak ?
You mean, this?!?

Mr Gogolak:

I'm not sure that's what everyone's looking for in a new manager, to be honest...

Why?

Us winning the EL has no relevance/alignment to the fact that we will probably lose 20+ games in the PL

I can't see any logic that says Ange will suddenly be able to get a tune in the PL next season? and I'd be very concerned if anyone in the club thinks so.

Good on you if that the case!

Unfortunately most people including myself have an opinion on. Public figures which they wouldn’t share with the person themselves

Oh trust me, I have opinions on plenty, but I won't write them/state them publicly unless I'd say it to them (let me caveat that by saying it is a model I try very hard to live by, but I am sure I could be called out...let's be honest, I think I'd moderate 'slightly' what I'd say to Mourinho - only one or two 'tossers' in there LOL)...I have to sadly admit there's an inevitable smidge of hypocrisy wafting around as I approach my very late 50s. I think it's inevitable. At least that's what I tell myself LOL...

Would be so THFC to finally find a manager that can win us a big trophy only to sack him immediately after he does so.

After the season we've had, after the noise and continual waves of BS which have crashed against our bough, I find it interesting that no-one has considered the fact that Postecoglu probably does not want to stay here much longer. In fact, I think the whole farce is an increasingly poor statement on how we operate. I'd have much more respect for the club in this regard had they bothered to stage ANY sort of protective mechanism/closed ranks around Postecoglu when the brick was really hitting the fan in January. Instead they continued to leave him out there taking the beating, occasionally dribbling a 'it looks like there is no move to replace him' via some such media source.

Even for the many here who don't like him, I ask the following question. Would it really have done the club/us any more harm to have had Munn give a statement saying something to the effect of, "Nobody is satisfied with the results or league positionm least of all Ange and the players, there are significant factors such as injuries, there are several areas of the club which we are reviewing, but we must all back both Ange and the club at this time. Considerations can be taken at the end of the season, until then it is vital that everyone at the club and it's supporters, continue to stay together and focussed."
Or something like that?
I don't think so.
I'll take a wild guess here that Levy is relieved Ange has been the hate punching bag more than him this season, albeit that was in the balance around January, when a statement such as the above would've certainly alleviated some of the pressure building on the manager...

...in the end, this is all a bit like those movies where you see the ending and spend the next 120 minutes getting to how it happened. I feel certain he won't be here, the question is how we got here in the first place...

Ange's position is completely untenable.
We are currently a joke of a team. Sorry to break it to you. We are not serious.
Our defence is wet tissue paper:

29 Dec our defence held out for a massive 6 minutes against the mighty Wolves
4 Jan we held out for a full 5 minutes vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine
19 Jan we held out for a full 12 minutes vs Everton
9 Feb we held out for a full 0 minutes vs Villa
22 Feb Ipswich should have been 2 up in the first 5 minutes
26 Feb we held out for a full 11 minutes vs Emirates Marketing Project
6 Mar we held out for a full 16 minutes vs AZ Alkmaar
10 Apr we held out for a full 5 minutes vs Eintracht Frankfurt
13 Apr we held out for a full 1 minute vs the mighty Wolves AGAIN!
21 Apr we held out for a full 4 minutes vs Forest.

That is 6+5+12+0+?+11+16+5+1+4 = Embarrassing

So who runs the comms at the club. Anthony Marshall (https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthony-marshall-93843043/?originalSubdomain=uk)

Where does he report? Donna Cullen (https://businessoffootball.live.ft.com/agenda/speakers/3228850)

So what if Munn is being denied public engagements by these two?

In my mind, there would be absolutely no harm in Munn making public statements. The ones I've watched, I think he's actually good at it.

My other guess is that Levy is not the one relieved that Ange is taking the bullets. Levy is shockingly bad at comms himself and has never known what "good" looks like, let alone "great". I doubt he even has a big opinion on it. He just trusts the wrong people on his board.

I've already had my say in recent days.

I genuinely think that if Ange and his coaches find the right balance between when to play offside and when to let his defenders use their smarts and mark / pick up players / pivot etc then we would see a massive difference in our defensive stats. Lose those 15-20 stupid goals a season and we'd be in a very different place with our views on Ange.

Agreed!!!!!

Yes, but would it be harder for Ange to subjectively achieve that than a new manager? I think, at least for parts of our fan base, that might be the case

I personally don't think he'll last until next season, and agree with you that if he does, he would have to have a great start to the season (better IMO than a new manager) to build faith among the fan base.

It's a hypothetical question. Winning the EL could, despite our other failings, save his job. What if he, unlikely as it now seems, managed to turn us around - how much better would we have to play to get fans back on his side?
I've already had my say in recent days.

I agree about that. Get rid of those stupidly conceeded goals and we'd be much better off. Even if we do, however, I fear it would take more time for fans to warm to a "new" Ange than a new manager in similar circumstances.

Would be so THFC to finally find a manager that can win us a big trophy only to sack him immediately after he does so.
Cup runs and to a lesser extent wins often come down to luck at the end of the day. The league is the true measure of where a team is at, as the monotonous grind of fixtures and the playing of everyone home and away rewards consistency, good game and squad management and tactics.

The last manager to win us a trophy was Juande Ramos.

We were very lucky that the three promoted teams to the PL proved to be among the worst in a long long time and that the threshold for being in a genuine relegation dogfight has been lower than normal.

I think it is likely that the club will consider it too much of a risk to keep Ange into next season.

A EL win will allow a mutual parting, rather than a sacking. We could thank Ange for everything he's done, he'd maintain his "always wins a trophy in his second season" and so on and so forth.

However, even if we win the Europa league, while the season overall would be a success, the league campaign has been a disaster and could even be our worst ever performance in the PL
