*** Tottenham Hotspur v Nottingham Forest ***

Can't really argue with that, but I do think the added pressure of being at a club so hungry for success, and having been so close, was too much for Nuno.

I'll admit that I was happy with every one of Levy's choices -- Mourinho, Nuno, Conte, and now Ange were all, to my mind, perfectly decent choices at the time, and they were certainly given a decent amount of backing. Just a pity that they've been disaster after disaster. All I can hope now is that we win the Europa League, manage to appoint someone good over the summer, and don't lose too many of our bright young players.

Here's the weird thing

- Minus Nuno, who didn't get a fair shake, Jose, Conte & Ange all did better in their first season than second?

That's weird, each of them got investments (how much, if enough, doesn't matter), all of them probably more than predecessors got to dump deadwood, yet all of them were worse in 2nd season

Now argument could be made, none of them would fall into the "particularly adaptable" category, and the PL is a place to get found out, and is that a huge lesson for us, pick the next guy as someone who can adapt, when the league adapts to you.

It's not weird it's logical based on how we operate. We take things for granted. Rather than build on them, we expect it to keep working without adjustment. Again, Poch was the outlier because he was far better than anyone thought, yet how many examples can we choose from his second and third season where he virtually begged for movement only to be rebuffed (usually with the stadium as the reason) yet was expected to deliver?

Some context too for each one
Conte had his mates death on the staff and his own operation in year 2 … plus he never wanted to be here beyond that term
Wasnt Mourinho season 2 the Covid season?
Ange has been hammered with injuries that may have affected things in season 2. He is also one of the people who decided we could have a smaller squad for more games (WTF)

Mate, I like you but you get wrapped up on stuff, I gave you the last 3 managers, you went back 5 years further, I could say Harry and BMJ had better 2nd seasons as well.

- Ange had a side that came 5th with no backup CF, no real backup GK, no tricky LW, little FB cover and a limited midfield. He got Solanke, Gray, Bergvall, Spence, Wilson, Danso, Kinsky & Tel. And injuries and/or when we bought players seems to make little difference, first 18 games, we lost 9, next 15, we lost 9 (it's getting worse despite extra players and injury returns)

Really hard to say we took it for granted or we didn't make an adjustment? was the squad thin, did we take certain risks, perhaps rely on youth too much? sure to all that, but does that say 5th -> 16th or does it say, manager found out by PL and unable to adapt?

Despite the dislike for Jose, said it before, he did have Covid to deal with (and impact on spend)

Conte was being Conte, he's sitting 2nd in Italy right now and bricking all over his new club 8 months in .. nothing changes and it's on any club that hires him to understand the deal they are making.

Fingers crossed Paratici will be back in place soon and, if so, I expect he will relieve Munn of his duties. Munn can then go and get a job in whatever football backwater suits his level.

Even if Paratici doesn't return I expect Vinai Venkatesham will jettison Munn and replace him with somebody better.
Munn is not a football man full stop. He's just an admin guy. To give him that role, Chief Of Football Operations or whatever its called was a flippin joke. This all stems from Levy having zero clue about football.
I d love to know who got in Levys ear to appoint big Ange though. Ahead of Poch was criminal. A man with zero experience in any of the top 5 leagues in the world, and lets forget what he did in Scotland please.
It took 10 games before he was found out.
Yes please to Paratici and a manager who at least knows how to set a team up to be solid at the back and dangerous in attack.

If you have two boxers in a ring. One is rushing forward. Flailing wildly. The other dodges and weaves, blocks the punches thrown. Then counters knocking out the other fighter.

There is no argument who is the better fighter.

We've been flailing all season. The other teams just knock us out.
Fantastic analogy, it really sums up what and where we are.

It depends on what the plan was. We were in a very toxic period at the club, the squad still was in the pending refresh stage and we probably needed a couple of years to reset before being able to challenge again. It that scenario

- Bringing a manager that was first and foremost a decent human being, could represent the club well, not be a clam.
- Brining a manager that showed he could take Wolves to European challenging spots two years in a row (all we need was Spurs to be 1 or 2 spots better)
- Brining in a manager that tactically wasn't a 100% direction change from prior.

The logic of the hire was clear, problem is, media, fans, potentially some players decided he was a failure before he started. All the judging criteria of him proved to be correct FWIW.
The farcical search that ended in hiring him as a clear 10th (or worse) choice didn't help there of course, but the actual problem was the board hiring him and then firing him almost immediately!....
