Kevin Danso

our defence is like all about panic level reactions, no structure and no teamwork and too open.
even midfielders tracking back don't know how to help

Gutted about Danso.

He's done more than enough to keep Romero and VDV out of the side whilst they're not at full throttle. He's also challenged those that were seeing no wrong in Gray, Davies, Dragusin etc. He's operated at a higher level than those 3 in most departments. Only Dragu offered the same physical presence in key moments. Gray offered the passing and touches and I like his football brain. Davies offered the communication and leadership. For me, Danso has had that sprinkling of all these attributes. He's been a rock for us since end of Jan.

I guess what we don't know is how the 2 senior players responded to playing 45 mins each at the weekend. Was there any tightness in their prior injuries? Can they get straight back on the horse 4 days later?

It's interesting when you see most of our team plodding around, unable to beat a man, then Danso/VdV/Romero/Gray all can break forwards and beat 3 men and cause chaos, almost as though they are saying "FFS guys, just go like this, and this, and this boom gol"

It’s because the system encourages them to do that (ie opens space for them to do that) - but that space must come from somewhere else on the pitch.

No need to put ‘backed in quotation marks. I think we have spent 300m since he has been here.

Don't get me wrong, i think Ange is doing poorly given the squad he has at his disposal.

But let's be clear he got us 5th place last season after a bad collapse in the last 2/3 months. It was very achievable given the final points total that Villa got. But the club then only bought one clear first-teamer in the summer window in Solanke. All the others were young/potential punts.
So that's why i do put 'backed' in quotations and i refer to the club wrt to our current injury situation as it also seems we have a problem with our medical team set-up as well as tactics that make it worse (see Richarlison going to see his Brazillian doctors for example)

This is the point though, everything else is a caveat, is the difference between the less injured (no club is injured free) version of this squad anad what we have had, the difference between 13th & 5th, or the difference between 13th & 8th?

Ange wanted Gray, just like Ange wanted Johnson, Maddison, Solanke, Danso have been the senior additions

My real question, pick one more senior player, 1 more "Solanke type" in summer, you really think the results would be any different?

Re the injuries, no question medical team needs reviewing, but the tactics are part of it, and it's a circle, players get injured, remaining pool gets overplayed, more players get injured ... and so on. I think it will be very interesting to see when Ange moves on if we see 10+ players injured at same time again.

Yes only bought 1 recognised first teamer. Most expensive signing in the window.

We had other issues that needed to be addressed though. Lack of club trained players.
