Archie Gray

I really hope he's our starting DM next season. Him doing that, with Bergvall in the Dembele role, and Sarr as an option when we want more legs, is really exciting.
It's exciting wherever he plays, but when you look at who is around him it's mouthwatering.
Spence to his right, Udogie to his left, Bergvall in front of him, kulu, Odobert, son or Johnson making runs.
And that's without even mentioning Porro, Sarr, Biss, Bentancur or maddison or Moore or tel or solanke.

No, he isn't a CB.

He is doing a great job there as cover, but he isn't a CB.

Get him doing the job he is doing now, just further up the pitch and get VDV, Romero, Danso, Dragusin or Vuskovic be the cb's.

They can then clear up anything that gets past him.

Glad there are others who see it like me, do not get me wrong but as well as he may have played he imo is not a CB. His talents are elsewhere and i believe he will stand out more once he gets a chance to do so.

I like the way he is so calm, got done by Delap a couple of times but never let it unnerve him, he appears assured of his own ability and that's unusual in one so young. He might have a dip in form or injury which will test him but he looks the sort who can face challenges.

I think he could end up a centre back. His calmness and positional sense are years ahead of his age.

I hope we can get Delap this summer. Be great if he took Richy’s place in the squad.

I just hope we don't break him. It will be a totally moot conversation about whether he is a centre half or a midfielder if he's spending all his time with the medical team.

49 games last season and I think I heard the commentator say that he's just done a stint of 17 consecutive matches for Spurs on top of other games this season.

We need to get him out of top gear soon.

I see that his natural position has been midfield, but the reason I would (if HE was interested) be really tempted to further develop his talents at CB are absolutely down to what you said above, plus his passing abilities and ball-carrying skills. Imagine if he did settle at CB. We'd have a phenomenal footballer with defensive nouse who can absolutely ensure that we transition defence to attack with speed and skill PLUS it would allow us an extra actual midfielder/forward.

I am on the fence about Delap. I see the excitement but I also see the potential for him to hit a wall in terms of development. His next move will be vital if he is to fuflil his natural talent, that's for sure.

He could become a top class player in multiple roles/positions imo. A well rounded and seems to have a very good understanding of the game, able to compensate for his weaknesses already at a very young age.

I'm not a believer in a player's technical quality being "wasted" by playing deeper or at the back. Total fotball baby.

I still think his future will most likely be in midfield though.

Good problem to have. And personally I think a young player playing a spell of games in different positions can be quite useful.

Absolutely. As we have already seen. At 18!!!!!

Said it before, but hey... Even an 18 year old CB doing well at this level at 18 is really rather rare. For a midfielder/full back to do well at CB at this level is just about unheard of. In part of course because it's rarely been tried, rarely been necessary as teams typically don't have this level of injuries. But he's done absolutely brilliantly given the circumstances.

I'm on that fence as well. What I would say is that I felt that way about Solanke before he joined. It was a recruitment data model that brought Dom to the top of the pile and so far it looks spot on. Someone said yesterday that if Solanke was playing instead of Tel we would have made lighter work of that win. I would say the same thing about Delap playing as our nine. It wouldn't surprise me if we are looking for a genuine number 9 to rotate with Solanke then Delap would be a Spurs target. Now we've entered into the Tel agreement, I'm less sure we are looking through that lens.

I am probably getting carried away a little here but could he be Kaiser mk 2. :)

My grandson just told me Gray is the worst player in the premier league according to some stats site, if anything confirmed my thoughts on stats that's it. I suspect he could improve his stats greatly by wearing a red shirt.

Most of stats are over last 365 days (FBRef) so for Gray it's a mess, two clubs, two leagues, 4 positions

I took a quick look, his tackles/interceptions are pretty low (odd exception of tackles high up pitch), his passing/progressive stuff good.

Like all data, you could cherry pick to tell whatever story you want but he has so much nuance (clubs/leagues/positions) and being 18, would be hard to read anything serious into it.

You will upset the stats junkies by saying that.

Saw that, joint worst on fotmob with a rating of 6.1

Can't remember who else was bottom with him. But he is playing out of position, first season in the pl at 18 years old.

Liverpool (X2) Everton, Leicester, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and arsenal games killed his ratings. All 4 or 5
