what has happened to the transfer section?

Jasper on SO has posted alluding to LD,

Have we finally done it after a long courtship I wonder?
Nothing more to add ;)

Ridiculous, we will waste all summer trying to get him only to decide on Aug 31st he isnt for sale and buy or loan a has been at 10.59pm on Aug 31st

That's probably why we're going for Rebic - very young striker who plays out wide with the long-term potential for central. I assume that Son is so young that he'd rather not move his entire family after he's just become fluent in German.

I couldn't care less about Leandro tbh. Mediocre whenever I've seen him (manages to get involved less than Defoe, and that's awful for a team that's already a less-than-impressive NINTH in touches in the final third), and his form's only gotten worse by all accounts. A 5-7m gamble for a young striker okay, but Inter will want 15m+. I wish someone in Italy would just hurry up and buy him.

This!

I for one will be very disappointed if we end up signing him.

Facao ok with Monaco. 60mEuro deal. 10m euro a year for him.

Monaco have been bought by a russian millionaire if you are wondering.

Lequipe also reporting that there is a clause that lets him go away to Real Madrid as soon as January 2014 if they want to get him.

Think this is a deal just to make Monaco noticed around the world.

Tottenham are confident of luring Franco Baldini to White Hart Lane this summer as they step up plans to overhaul their recruitment operation, Goal.com understands.

Spurs have been tracking the Roma general manager and former England No.2 since last summer after making him their top choice to take on a technical director role at the club.

Baldini is contracted to Roma for another two years but the likelihood is growing that he will leave the Giallorosso for Tottenham at the end of the season.

The 52-year-old's powerbase at the Serie A club has been weakened this season following a series of recruitment decisions that backfired.

Former manager Luis Enrique, players Fernando Gago and Jose Angel, goalkeeping coach Franco Tancredi and head of communication Daniele Lo Monaco were all appointed on Baldini's recommendation and have since left the Olimpico Stadium.

The Roma general manager has ceded control this season on transfer strategy to sporting director Walter Sabbatini, who signed a contract extension in midweek, and his relationship with the club's Boston-based owners is said to have deteriorated considerably.

Baldini's €600-a-year (£507k) Roma contract runs until 2015 but Tottenham have a long-standing interest in the executive, as revealed by Goal.com last September, and have intensified their pursuit in recent weeks.

A deal with the Londoners has not yet been agreed but sources claim that Baldini could negotiate a settlement with Roma that includes a year's pay-off before signing for Spurs.

The tipping point in his relationship with Roma could well be the Coppa Italia final on May 26, should the club fail to defeat bitter city rivals Lazio.

Spurs have targeted Baldini as they look to overhaul their recruitment operation and create a new senior executive position.

Villas-Boas, who held talks with Baldini about taking the Roma manager's job last summer, has confirmed he would be comfortable with the introduction of a technical director at Tottenham.

"I have worked with one at Porto and Academica and had no issues with that and I certainly promote that," Villas-Boas said last September.

Senior Spurs officials have bided their time while they wait for Baldini to become available, even though club sources insist that there are other names in the frame for the role.

Baldini is well known to English audiences for his four years with the England national team working alongside Fabio Capello before his departure in 2011 to return to Roma for a second spell.

The former midfielder became director of football at Roma in 1999 and, with Capello, he helped to bring Walter Samuel, Gabriel Batistuta and Emerson to the club. Baldini resigned in March 2005 and joined Capello at Real Madrid a year later.

Would love to see us sign Benteke, but at £20m plus it wont be happening. David Villa and Loic Remy together would probably cost less

So papers today seem think benteke and McCarthy are our main targets what does everyone think to that?

its not a bad move personally, it fits in with our model as well. benteke is a good squad option that could fight it out for first team choice, having said that ability wise i dont see him as THAT much better than what we have when our current crop are playing with a bit of confidence. it does spread out the risk of firing blanks though as we have more options to try. i would be okay with that personally.......just worried about the style of football that suits him in order for him to shine

dont know much about mccarthy but i have heard good things from people on this board

though i have to say in a knee jerk way i was VERY impressed with callum mcmanaman, i would like him as a squad player but we already have townsend coming back

Agree on Mcmanaman, looks quality whenever I've seen him, but is he better than Townsend, whose also looked probably just as good for QPR?

What about Hoilett? We know he's not as brick as he's shown this season. Could be cheap? This s another backup option. Ideally we want a lot better

We 100% need pacey cover to play on the left / right if one of Lennon and to a lesser degree Bale is injured, we stuggle when we dont play with pace and drive

So papers today seem think benteke and McCarthy are our main targets what does everyone think to that?

That they still think we have Redknapp in charge and that you can guess our targets by watching MOTD.

I think we'll be shopping directly from the Brazilian, Spanish, German, Dutch/Belgian and Swiss leagues from now on (due to AVB and Freund's greater knowledge of foreign leagues, combined with the big inflation of EPL prices cause by the new tv revenue).

I think Verts, Lloris and Holtby are indicators of our future direction transfer wise.
