For game time? Then the wages argument becomes irrelevant.

That'll be Eze that didn't move to anyone. Palace sold Olise - it is highly likely Eze simply wasn't available.

We operate in a transfer market, not eBay.

It's false to suggest we don't back the manager - we spend big transfer fees.
We also get a lot of those very wrong;

NDombele £60m
Richi £60
Bissouma £30
Etc etc

But you know what, fans were all in favour of most of those signings.
Reggie was a potential new top class LB.
NDombele could (should) have been Eze
Bissouma looked like he'd be the next Kanye

I wouldn't class Bissouma as a 'very wrong' signing. £30m isn't a particularly high fee these days and he has done a reasonable job overall.

The main issues for us with our transfers are twofold IMO.

1. At times we have operated with an incredibly poor, underfunded recruitment setup. We also ignored stats and data for far too long.
2. Our manager succession planning has been woeful. We've lurched from managers with a specific way of playing to others that have a very specific different way of playing. That will often render players signed by the previous manager to be sub-optimal for the next man in.

They do when they are going to be stuck paying a players wages for them to play virtually no part and walk on a free at the end of the season anyway.

They've started to offer the compromise agreement and let them walk as a free agent e.g. Hugo, Doherty, Aurier.

Obviously, Hojbjerg is still on our books, and so was Dier last season.

It could be either model.

Doherty was because our club is so well run that we do not know the loan rules.

Hobjberg and Dier both went with us getting a guaranteed transfer fee

That was my original school of thought. It's a very rare scenario.

If both parties can't find a reasonable compromise, then Reggie just sits it out and gets paid that nice salary. He has the power. He can even sign a pre-contract with a European club and walk into a summer signing on fee.

Spurs can't make him do anything he doesn't want to do. They can't force him to go on loan, and they can't make him join a club he doesn't want to.

I actually thought he seemed a bit upbeat that recently. Fed up and tired, for sure. But frustrated by the current situation stopping him implementing what he wants to implement and get the results.

You seem like a clever chap...I'd love to know your critical thinking here. Do you think Ange has flicked him a text saying "I don't fancy it anymore mate, hope I'm sacked." Or do you think he's doing it based on his body language/the way he speaks? Because we all know how good armchair psychology is.

Sounds to me like you got sucked into exactly what Luke Edwards wanted and clicked on his article/tweet or whatever service he posted that nonsense on.

Not really. Was reading the BBC coverage of the game on my phone and they quoted him. Not taking it as gospel or anything which is why I asked because I didn’t hear the interview as I was watching the first half in a bar so I said I’d ask here to get opinions rather than trying to apply critical thinking to something I didn’t hear. That’d seem like the smart thing to do. Obviously not…
