I refuse to join the Ange out phalanx because I do not think he is the problem. Rather, our main problems lie higher up the management totem poll. Jose moved on, Nuno moved on and Conte moved on. Look where they are now.

If ever a manager needed support during a January transfer window it was this one but once again the powers that be are found wanting.

Will reserve judgement until the end of the window, but am disappointed (even taking into consideration its the January window which is more difficult to acquire quality signings) we haven't been quicker at getting a couple of bodies in. Even if you was to argue it could be the board are unsure about Ange, we are led to believe any potential future manager would be the same front foot football type of manager so the profile of players we have and are looking to buy should align with whoever comes in to manage.

Even if Ange was sacked now/soon, that wouldn't give the new guy much of an opportunity to start well with so many out/knackered/not match fit. Can only hope this is due to us chasing quality profile fits rather than just getting in anyone as a body, so lets see what the final week brings.....

Teams don't know if they are still in Europe or out of it and don't want to release players if they are still in it. I'd say after the games next week there will be movement. No club has really done any business so far.

You're the first Spurs I've seen wanting us to lose in the Cup semi final. Very strange!

I can't remember saying I wanted to lose it, I'm just presuming we will, and if your honest with yourself you know we will also

I think it quite clearly can. Underlying numbers (xG) were good over what is then a decent sample for xG, but still a small one for pure goals numbers. Same for the eye test for me.

For me the big questions are:
-Do/will we have a good enough squad to play like that with "normal" injuries and two games a week.
-How much of our injury problems are inherent to the system and methods
-Can Ange survive to see if it happens.

Answer to first question, no. Answer to second question, loads. Answer to third question, I hope not

If we're not chasing quality profile fits we're imo doing something wrong. Not because we haven't signed anyone after Kinsky, but because quality profile fits should be our main priority.

Then bring in a Nelson/Saha/Werner/Danjuma type if that doesn't work.

What's not to like about them?

OK, aim slightly higher if we want to sign some placeholder can do a job signing to bolster the squad. But it really should be a quality profile fit player we look for.

I have issues with the board but in terms of expecting them to back Ange in January with reinforcements I think people are just glazing over how difficult this will be in practice. While i imagine a solution may be found the following significant barriers present themselves to doing any helpful business this window (and particularly doing it quickly no matter how much money we put down on the table). This isn't a Levy/Lange love-in. They're just facts:
- Unless the player can go on the B list (I.e. they're a kid) they can't be registered for Europa. Because our squad is full. So you're asking the majority of players that could come in and make a difference now to come here and not play/be involved in Europe.
- They've changed the European format so clubs in Europe will not know if they've made the later tournament stages until after the window shuts. This means you will get clubs hanging on to squad players and make it more difficult for buying clubs in January.
- We are not going to be a very attractive prospect for a player that's not desperate to move as we are in a crisis situation and most players we could tie up relatively quickly will likely know they'd be coming for a few games and will quickly lose their place when the squad returns to fitness.

All of this will likely limit the club's options largely to: A) more kids
B) players that would not be of the requisite quality to really help (i.e. players that could never contemplate giving up the chance to sign for Spurs no matter the circumstances)
C) players we could get if we pay massively over the odds for both in terms of fee, wages and contract length knowing we will then be stuck with a player surplus to requirements.

I agree. Basically what we should be trying to do is see if we can get one of our long term targets for this summer in early by paying a premium recognising the situation we are in. But as we are both saying, that's not going to be easy and will likely be a late one if we can pull it off.
