Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

I can absolutely give Ange some slack for the "days without players" due to injury. It's massive.

I don't always buy into the spending arguments though. Ange's job is simply to take the squad he is given between transfer windows and make it perform at its optimal level. He can do no more than that. The club's quid-pro-quo is to improve it during transfer windows, with Ange obviously having some ownership around promoting the youngsters so they become first team.

I think some of us were thinking along the lines of a realistic 5th or 6th but in a race for 4th when the season started, plus a long run in one of the cups. With the injuries we had to reset expectations but still want him to grab the a UEFA slot. I would say that is a stretch goal at this point as he has so far kept us in all of the cup competitions. It will be tough.

Ange's job right now is to demonstrate a positive trend from Jan to May. Some would call that reversing the current trend.

Basically, when we're not playing, I want him out. And then, the next match comes up and I can't help but think... if it worked, it would be so great. Sometimes, it feels like one of these rigged games where you keep on losing but also keep on playing because of the frustration it generates. There's got to be a way to make it work! Let's have another game!

I guess at the end of the day, I'm one of these 'head says get rid, heart says keep' people...
That game is called 'golf' mate ;)

Do you have stats on Salah’s in game efforts vs Kulu? Minutes/sprints etc. that’s the truer reflection of why a player might be tired. Plus, if you’re winning as much as salah is it’s easier.
A big difference for pool and Salah is the base they work form
That’s a well organised and experienced defence behind him
And a midfield that as far as I know has been rotated well but is still functional
And of course they have 6 players for 3 roles up top
It’s depth and also squad “resting”
He does play a lot of minutes but does no defending
He is also technically much better than a lot of players

Romero, last month:

Romero told Telemundo: "He's a great coach. We saw it in the first season. In this second one we've suffered a lot of injuries.

...

"We are very happy with this staff, me and my colleagues. We love how they work and the football they try to play. We'll try to move on quickly."

Albeit we haven't moved on quickly and he's been injured for all but about 20 mins of the games since then, but still.

Hadn’t seen that, so thanks. Very good to know.

Is it true that points per game wise, Ange is the worst coach we've had in the PL since Christian Gross?

Not counting interims I believe so, for perspective Jose/Conte/Poch were in the 1.70 - 1.80 PPG, Ange is at 1.65, Gross was 1.36

We are in a spiral, as a few others have mentioned the club has definitely given him time/room, but patience can't be endless.

Injuries and depth are obviously an issue but not the kind of issue that gets you to lose more games than the club has ever done at this stage in PL era.

I think he's got to the 2nd leg against Liverpool, get knocked out there and it has to be over.

Objectively he'd have been fired by now, but i think it's clear why he hasn't: there's no-one else who's good enough to take us to top 6 who'd take the job...it was why we ended up with Ange in the first place. As much as a clam Conte is/was, his words and others within the coaching circles are resonating loudly.
Club need to luck out on a Poch now and i think even that will be unlikely given where we are now in the football chain: we're no longer the 'plucky Spurs who have a capacity way below most of the top clubs" anymore and that lack of 'underdog' label we used to be able to give ourselves means there's no more room to act like one...

That (in my opinion) is a red herring, there is always a coach who will take the job for the money we pay. Said it before, Iriola is on 1M/yr, zero chance he wouldn't take a 6X-10X salary increase

I actually think the club is giving him the benefit of the doubt because they are acknowledging the rebuild and context (injuries), and Ange was brought to be more than a coach, he was supposed to give us a style.

The results will kill him in the end ..

You have the give the club some credit here. Levy's been characterised as a chairman with an itchy finger who'll sack managers to deflect from his own shortcomings. He's staying the course here - whatever happens, Ange will not be able to say he wasn't given a fair crack of the whip in terms of time.
Or more likely they have not identified a replacement and don't want another caretaker, not least while we still have a chance in the LC. The way things are looking now I don't think Ange survives the season though.

What did conte say about the club ?
I remember his rant about the players… the ones he picked and coached after the Southampton game
Conte was so spineless here
If he had any conviction and was as brave as he made out he would have quit
Instead he made himself fired so he got the money
Mourinho has a fair calls on any comments he made because of when he was sacked
Conte had us 4th and could have maybe kept us there … maybe. But instead he decided it dig out the players he picked and coached

I've never known or had this type of feeling with a manager. ie it's very likely to succeed just as much as it will fail.
Im afraid I don't get this at all. Once you get into this spiral a manager rarely gets out of it. I have not seen anything from Ange to suggest he is very likely to succeed other than a very small purple patch right at the start of his time here. In fact I am getting more and more of a feeling of Emperor's new clothes about the guy. Which is a shame because I so wanted this philosophy to succeed.

Honestly, if at this stage they haven't identified a replacement and at least sounded the said manager(s) agent, Munn should be fired before Ange.

I think they are doing their best to give him a chance with some players back and the cup is his hail mary, get smashed by Pool in 2nd leg and I don't see survival on the cards

Arteta got out if it didn’t he

I dunno mate, hard to know what they are thinking. But Football decision makers are usually ruthless which is why given how things are going, I find it hard to believe they are just hoping he will turn this around. Plus they will be taking note of all the teams around us making managerial changes. Flirting with the bottom of the table rather than fighting for Europe will be costing the club money.

We were winning consistently at the start of this season, before everyone got injured.

It's a very good piece.

The direction of travel is not giving me any certainty either.
The overall outcome is potentially like many of our games....you just don't know what might happen.

And because of all that my overriding feeling is unease. I suppose it's the uncertainty that does that....but please don't prolong it too long:)
I am with you here. Unease. What a great term...
