That's my view too.

There is a valid point though - "don't become the story". He's made a rod for his own back with the "I always win something in my second season", "are you not entertained" and "I won't change mate" mantras.
Those are great if you win. You look like a fool when you don't.

Amorin and Pep should be the story.
Amorin should be under the microscope, analysing how he's going to change the ship.
Pep - his form is worse than Ange I think! But his narrative has been to say little and to talk "finding different solutions".

There isn't a team playing wonderful football, so a struggle has to be the narrative. Us being the narrative was avoidable. Ange is happy to talk the talk when things are hopeful - he needs to put his gonads where his mouth is when it's hard too. (I've really should rephrase that!)

The Deki interview is fascinating. (Future manager right there)
I really hope everyone can pull together and make the tweaks needed. And part of this is about learning game smarts - we are very inexperienced at this level across the team and coaching set up.

A cup final and qualifying for EL is what I expected at the start of the season.

Ange could have but did not learn from last years injuries. Made it worse by not introducing players like spence and bergvall earlier, and the rushed introduction of vdv and Romero who immediately got injured again, which probably makes the recovery now much worse

We are paying the price for 4 years of bad decisions and having to completely rebuild. No manager in football could bring us the immediate success we all crave.

Ange's version of Liverpool would be more like Klopps. They'd go gangbusters and tear up the league, they'd concede more for sure but possibly score even more.

I do think Ange's system would work very well with better players, Liverpools in particular. I largely think the difficult Ange has and will continue to have is the relative lower quality of player he has here. The question I keep asking is will we ever recruit the required quality to match his footballing intentions.

I think we will
But I also say it needs time
We have spent plenty without the CL income so I assume that will continue

I have no belief in ENIC tbh. In terms of buying young technical players maybe, but we need to not waste time. Quick evaluations have to be made and the guys we don't think will make it swapped out for newer blood and it has to be done on a consistent basis. Madison isn't looking like he cuts it, Kulu does. It might make sense to sell Maddison ok the short terms and bring at least 1 rotation/competition sub for Kulu.

That is what we did this summer
I think we have a lot of people forgetting how many we shipped out in the summer
And we still have plenty on loan, all I assume apart from Brian Gil we think can make it here at some point
We have to replace the experience asap to build that back up
3/4 players imo
And we have to be willing to sell some too

I reckon this squad will be at it's leanest for many a year.

Even if we do nothing this summer, we can watch Forster, Davies, Whiteman, Reggie and Timo walk at the end of their contracts/loans. Isn't Sonny in the same boat as well, but probably has the 1 year extension?

If we shift the names you mention, we're close to 10 players lighter, following everything we did last season.

I just hope we find the 2 or 3 players that make the difference.

We will replace the ones that enable now for sure
The ones that went we haven’t really replaced
And we will have back Veliz, Philips, Donley, Keeley (he will go first team), and our two lads from Belgium in Devine and Vuskovic
I suspect we will loan out some more players and maybe a couple of these

Going into next season with an even younger, less experienced squad than this season would be dangerous.
 
I don't see the club sacking him unless:

1) we get steered in to a relegation battle

Or

2) a manager that heads any potential succession planning list indicates he's willing to jump mid season.

I don't think either are too likely.


Sacking him without the new man lined up and with another Mason caretaker stint will create such a toxic environment that the club will avoid it at all costs. I think this means he gets the season, we limp to the end then we part ways. That or the club truly are behind him and are committed to the long haul (a 3rd season)

Wonder if waiting till the end of the season or giving him a 3rd would go some way to saying that Munn is the one calling the shots on day to day football operations?

Mentioned this before, but would Johan Lange assume responsibilities as the interim 1st team manager with Mason / Wells as the coaches? That would be a dual role with his recruitment side. Johan has been in coaching roles before, but not extensively.
