Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

Really hard to say, to be honest.

They have done far better this season than I expected, thats for sure. Easy to say they have peaked and this is it, but Id have said similar last season.

The weird thing is, I just dont think they are particularly good. And its not in that bitter rival fan way, though I openly admit I detest them, its in a - I think they are really basic, and flawed. And honestly quite boring.

They are a great MOTD side, but 90 over minutes are so dull. And people talk about us being lucky this season, I think there is a catalogue of luck and flukes for them this year (impossible to replicate!)

They are, genuinely IMO, basically an expensive Pulis team. Long balls forward and once its up there let the strikers do the business.

Of course there is more to the team, but in essence thats what it adds up to.

That and their mental run-yourself-into-the-ground pressing, which I think teams are getting wise to. Keep them locked out until about 70 minutes and they are there for the taking...

I dont get the impression Klopp is building anything, I think this is it with him. He might get players who are a bit better, but there will be no quantum leap forward in the football they play.

Salah has scored 10 less goals this season, as expected, but they are still up there. Credit to them for that.

Mane has scored 10 more to compensate, though - as with Salah - I do wonder if we can expect him to drop again next year.


I get a Liverpool fan enjoying the moment and predicting big things - but honestly I think in the cold light of day this looks to be about it for them and Klopp.

Famous last words perhaps. I do expect them to be a strong team in the league next year again, but also if clubs like us get our brick toghether it wont be the run away thing it has been this year.

VAR will surely reduce the refereeing errors in their favour too.

Obviously I certainly hope so!

I dont think a week has gone by in this thread without comment on them getting away with something, Salah selling a dive and getting an undeserved penalty, them fluking a goal out of nowhere...

That sort of thing cannot be relied upon, and much like Salahs form from last year to this I would expect this to regress.

Looking at it, this season is a once in a lifetime golden opportunity really. The luck, the undeserved wins, the good form at times, its all come together a bit like when Leicester won the league.

If they fail to win it now (and I would love nothing more) itll be a crippling blow IMO.

Not only are the chances of such a run again desperately slim, itll break them as well. The fans and team, they are all so swept up in their BS - the come down will be spectacular.
 
Liverpool's front three is very effective, which means they are not so reliant on any one of them. Beyond them they are weak, but its hard to have more depth and keep good players happy. With Van Dijk and the goalkeeper they have improved the defense immensely and have a couple of good fullbacks that are essential for their polo formaiton. If they avoid injuries and keep the key players these areas should remain good.

The weakness is midfield where the likes of Henderson and Milner still get to play. If they can improve here they might not need to depend on the direct style. Can Kieta be a 60 million player? There is a lot of room for improvement so I don't think they will fall off so much. I expect City to stay where they are and Liverpool to drop away, but the rest will have to improve substantially to catch Liverpool.

The owners spent a lot last year, well above what they got for Coutinho. I was surprised then that they didn't cash in on someone and I'd be surprised now if they continued to spend. This season seems the one they pushed hard to catch City, so the question is if they are willing to keep trying. The owners don't seem the sort to keep buying into the its our year philosophy.

That depends.

We've seen that it's easy to give a VAR offside/not offside. We've even seen a few VAR penalties that were not spotted at the time. Do the referees involved in VAR have the nuts to call a Liverpool player a cheat? Especially in the knowledge that the rabid mob up there has nothing better to do all day every day than to ensure the cult of victim continues.

I really hope that blatant dives from the likes of Salah get called as such, but I won't hold my breath.
 
Without doubt they have done well to close the gap on an exceptional City side who were miles ahead last season. Cannot take that away from Pool and of course there is still a chance they could win it on Sunday. They have also reached the Champions League semi for second year running and only Messi stopped them progressing further. So it looks like they have been stopped by an exceptional team and an exceptional player. Life is bummer. Ordinarily I might have some sympathy with their fans.

But coming from Mauritius as my family do there are literally thousands of Liverpool fans who have never been to a game, even though many live here. They have been insufferable this year especially as our season has gone Pete tong since Feb. So I will be really glad if they lose out even though they may be the "moral" winners. Couldn't write that last sentence without sniggering.

I don't think failing will have much effect on their fanbase, they are totally delusional, it will fuel their paranoia that the universe is against them and its never their fault.

For Guardiola it must be like being a chess grandmaster playing against a computer. Liverpool are very machine-like.

Agree with a lot of this - the one thing I dont see is where this they are a long ball team has come from on here, for me its a bit of a myth. Do they look to get it forward quickly? Sure. But if they were some long ball team they wouldnt have the possession stats they do. In both the Premier League and Champions League they have more possession than we do, so if they're a long ball side Im not sure what that makes us.....

Call it direct if you prefer, point is they largely bypass the midfield and get the ball from back to front as soon and direct as possible.

Just dont agree the midfield is bypassed at all. Premier League this season both Fabinho and Henderson average more passes per match than Eriksen/Dele/Sissoko. They move the ball forward quickly, but they dont bypass the midfield to do that......
 
Theres a lot of passing between defence and midfield, that meaningless back and forth.

Does wonders for the passing stats.

Then as soon as there is an opening the ball is up front. 1 or 2 passes and thats it.

They dont play in midfield much at all.

Get the ball forward asap, charge up there, apply pressure in their 3rd....

Or, get the ball forward asap, and the forwards have done with it by the time the midfield catches up....


They dont play like a possession side. They dont have any patience either. Milner/Wijlnaldum/Henderson - I mean, come on! Its as base a midfield as you can have, and thats because thats all it needs to be.

The play foosball football, get it from the back to midfield to the front as quickly as possible and repeat. Their midfield don't need to be creative they just need to pass the ball forward quickly

Already paranoid, built themselves up for glory - having spent years in delusion they are actually close to something - perform incredibly well only to lose out anyway.

Aside from making them more paranoid you dont think itll hit them?

I do!

I think they will hit the floor and itll be a LONG time before they pick themselves up again.

And I think that will permeate the entire club.
