To be a bit cynical (rather insensitive, I know), does this lend some credibility to the rumours about VdV wanting out to move back to Germany in the summer?

Most breakups don't come out of nowhere, seems somewhat likely that they've been struggling for a while and moving back to Germany might have been an attempt at saving the relationship...

I was with the first wife for 6 years and we had some awful arguments before splitting up but i never hit her. I lost a lot of respect for vdv but then he did come from gypsy stock so im not shocked. Just walk away so easy just walk away, now when i have arguments with this wife, i go for a cycle ride. I have told my son that no matter what happens when a woman argues with you they will always think they are right and can never see they have done something wrong so is best just to walk away.

No for acting in a threatning and abusive way to my wife actually, for the record he was male, You never raise your hand to a woman, funny right?

you have issues if your making light of violence towards women, i know vdv was one of ours but you never raise your hand to a woman. please do not talk with me on here in future, for the record i felt i did nothing wrong in punching the guy who was abusive to the wife and i just think a man who hits out at a woman is scum. VDV comes into the scum category now if you try and make light of it i don't care for your opinon. I shall not give my opinon of you otherwise i would be in trouble with the mods, see that is called self control right there.

You appear to have completely got the wrong end of the stick, which was that you didnt demonstrate any restraint when you hit that kid, yet are now preaching about "walking away".
I expect the irony of your over-reaction to my post has escaped you as well.

Take a better look at yourself than you did at my post.

This 100%, I have been married for 22 years and I have never raised a finger towards my wife.

I used to idolise VdV, but this leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. I feel really sorry for their son!

He'd probably just been watching TV Burp, I've lost count of the time's I've shoved the wife into a hedge and shouted "Bush Push"

An unforgivable shame.

I had heard that he was a nutter who could start a fight in an empty room.
I sadly have a dim view of people who hit women as the 'answer' to an argument. I never idolized him quite as much as some, but it is still a major disapointment to see this.
But a real shame as his move was partially a last-ditch effort to rescue a situation and it has failed miserably...

Hang on - you are all talking as if he DID hit her - it is just a paper - we consider transfer rumours to be JUST that RUMOURS.

I dont know and I always like to give the benefit of the doubt in this case and as always I will give it. No one really knows bar those two (and any medic etc that did treat her IF she did get hit). This whole him hitting her seems to be just one line thrown in there - a throwaway line.

I didn't see the bit about him hitting her. He was one of my favourite Spurs players, but what he did is not on! Not sure if I'd take him back now, assuming the story is true.

Bild has a direct quote where he apologises for his moment of madness. Sylvie for her part says she has forgiven him.

My grandad always went for a walk around the block whenever an argument was brewing and when he came
back things had calmed down. Thats the only way to do things as situations can escalate quickly
