Transfer thread

We have to accept that just because you've been good at developing players in the past it doesn't mean you think every player has the potential. He's evaluated what he's seen from Johnson and doesn't believe that he can get more from him. I don't disagree honestly.

Believe me, I don't sit here wringing my hands in some David Mitchell-esque frenzy about it!
i have accepted it.
And I think equally, we can accept a counter-view which says that dispensing with dquad members who do carry some positional and material value (even if they don't specifically fit your way) before having ample replacement OR in lieu of resting the geezer you've been flogging for 6 months is (at best) curious behaviour.

I'd imagine following windows will by and large follow the same pattern - most clubs supporters will think their club acts slow/badly during the transfer windows and we just think we're unique cos we pay more attention to our workings.
I think that’s fair. I’m not seeing large numbers of deals being announced across the league. Overall we’re not looking particularly slow.

This is from a Brazilian guy I am friends with that’s pretty knowledgeable.

I think he’s alright, remember following him during the u13s he was more of a winger and then got brought back recently. As expected, more offensive but could improve defensively. I think he’s ok, but I don’t see him as ready to play EPL, would probably follow Kota Takai’s steps and get minutes in germany or reserves.
He was following him when he was 13.....
6 years ago. I don't know, but I think maybe players develop slightly from 13 to 19, but hey, what do I know....

Without context that seems fair, however

- We somehow are moving players out (Johnson, Solomon, with several of the youngsters loans being redone, looks like Dragusin is going.) with one realistic incoming (as a backup/squad option, unproven in Europe)
- Frank is in trouble, the club is in freefall, January was supposed to be a good month schedule wise, 1 good player at the start of January could have made a huge difference to Frank staying or going.
- Two seasons of poor performances, you either accept mediocrity or you make drastic changes to counter, this isn't a normal window to be judged, this has to be seen as an emergency window to try to course correct, the fact that non of the heirchy seem to see it that was is a big problem.

I think I would have to ask the question whether Johnson was backup to Kudus at this stage anyway. Because he was a big signing, fans just assumed that he would come in as Kudus's injury replacement. Perhaps Frank would have preferred Bergval in that position anyway. It was Bergval that resumed that position against B'mouth on his own injury return.

Like you, I thought I saw a different Johnson at Forest. A player that wasn't just a right winger. A player that had some decent intelligence that could run in between the lines and play as a second forward. A player that would get goals. I do trust my club on this one though. He was raw at Forest and in his 3rd season with us and hadn't made great progress as he hit his mid-twenties. It looked like he had plateau'd and I have no issue with us taking the money. I don't really care that we don't have a replacement either. Our squad is deep enough that we can carry a small squad gap through until next season. We have enough versatile players.
