Transfer Rumour Thread

I think Modric and Toure are the two best central midfielders in the Premier League

You might be right, and what is even more interesting, is that they could be the perfect partnership as their games would really suit each other. Hopefully we won't see this partnership as it's a bit more likely Modric would be going there as opposed to Toure coming here. Cheeky swap deal with Jenas perhaps.

Off the top of my head I'm struggling to think of better, personally I think Ramires is up there, not as good yet but in time I think he will be.

To be honest if Sandro had performed all season like he had done these last few games I think he'd be top ten easily. A shame injurys messed it up for him this season.

Oh and if we do make any deal with City this summer, we should demand John Guidetti in part exchange.

Not going to get regular football with us and wouldn't come to us to be loaned back out again. Haven't seen him play but he does seem like he has potential though.

Think he'd be in same situation as Steven Caulker,
young and highly talented, either winning a starter place or be the first in line back up / rotation player.

I actually think Yaya Toure has been at his best in a more advanced role. The problem for City is that when he plays there they have had a shortage in skill and creativity in the two holding players. City could easily end up playing a Modric type player next to Barry/De Jong as the two deeper player allowing Toure to join Silva and Nasri/Aguero in those attacking midfield roles.

To avoid bankrupting the club, I think it's important that we realize that it's not necessary to pay 175k a week to have a striker of Adebayor's quality. He's only on that kind of money because he's already been at a money club like City.
Top international strikers around Spain, Germany, Italy etc. are still on anything between 30k-80k as long as they aren't at the top 5-6 Champions League clubs or a bank rolled club. There are a lot of options out there, and we're an attractive club to join. We have to look at players like Giroud, Negredo, Remy etc. who haven't made their "big" move yet.

Agreed, I would not pay Ade ?ú100K a week let alone ?ú175K

At least Caulker has had a decent season in this league and is less likely to be bullied physically like Gallas.

what has micah richards ever done to classify himself a world class player? i think he's pretty shabby defensively and aside from the odd barnstorming run forward, he's still very untested and unproven... i'd consider him behind kyle walker in the reckoning for an england place (not just because he hasn't played lately) and i'd say he's not close to kyle's level as yet. that's just my opinion though..

From what I've heard, Emirates Marketing Project's targets are RVP, Hazard, Bale, Herrera, and Martinez. They don't give a fudge about FFP. They won't get all of them, but just adding RVP, Hazard, and Martinez would make them extraordinarily good.

Javi Martinez?

Top, top player - wish we managed to strike a double deal for him and Llorente last season before their stock doubled. Now they've received a bit of airtime to the masses (via EL, etc.) and the rest is history. Mind you - based on current form, I'm pretty certain Llorente would be Spain's starting striker at the Euros so unless Levy pulls of a major move prior to 8 June - we'd be completely blown out of the water yet again.

In addition - I'd like to think Spain should be one of the first places to look for players outside MotD. Keeping in mind the success of recent arrivals - I'd be inclined to think number of Spaniards would be prepared to trade good climate and vernacular culture for the ultimate media reacharound and exposure. I sincerely hope we have scouts doing their job as we speak, looking at potential targets, options, etc. - they're so many talented and most importantly - attainable targets at La Liga currently.

Ajax's Vertonghen wins Eredivisie Player of the Year

Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen has been voted the Eredivisie Player of the Year by De Telegraaf.

The Belgium international beat off competition from Heerenveen's Bas Dost, Feyenoord's Jordy Clasie and team-mate Christian Eriksen to win the prestigious award, which he will add to the Player of the Year accolade he received from his own club just a few weeks ago.

The 25-year-old Vertonghen played a key role in Ajax claiming their 31st Eredivisie title this season, marshaling a defense which kept 11 clean sheets in total, as well as chipping in with an impressive seven goals.

However, while the center-back still has another year to run on his contract, he is expected to leave Amsterdam this summer, having been repeatedly linked with a move to Tottenham.

Vertonghen, who arrived at Ajax as a teenager from Antwerp outfit Germinal Beerschot, announced on Sunday that he is also considering offers from elsewhere.

Would be thrilled if this is all true.

Ajax star Jan Vertonghen has dropped a huge hint that he is set to join Tottenham this summer.

The Belgian defender was talking after being winning the Dutch Golden Boot presented by De Telegraaf to the Eredivisie Player of the Year.

Arsenal were believed to be heading the chase for the 25-year-old, whilst Manchester United have also been linked.

But now Vertonghen has suggested that he could be on course for a move to White Hart Lane.

"I owe much to Ajax, I have always given my whole heart and soul for them. My appreciation for the club and the fans is great," said Vertonghen, who has encouraged his current employers not to stand in his way.

"It would be terrible if my departure would be a long and distorted situation as Ajax would keep asking for a great price 'till the bone'.

"Of course I want Ajax to become financially better, but the amount Tottenham are willing to pay, maybe with a little bit extra, is very reasonable.

"In a year from now I could leave the club for free. I hope Ajax are aware of it as the situation of Maarten Stekelenburg's transfer was very harsh. He only arrived at the end of pre-season at AS Roma. I want to flow in fluently, directly with the other Spurs players.

"Tottenham is a fantastic traditional club who play football in a way I like.

"Ajax was the perfect club for me, but Spurs will be very close in nearing that already. They buy young, eager and offensive-minded players."

Spurs' Rafael van der Vaart has already revealed he has encouraged Vertonghen to move to White Hart Lane, whilst manager Harry Redknapp confirmed his interest earlier this month.

Fingers crossed we can get him, and get him in early. Think him and Kaboul would work well together.

is anyone else worried about how much the Vertonghen deal is getting talked about in the press. If i was United i would now be putting him on my team sheet, however as its us its almost like tempting fate and it won't actually happen

Really hope that is all true. Seems like a lot to make up, even for a journalist and I don't quite see why Vertonghen would make all that up.

All set up for another disappointment, I see!

Hopefully he will write us a nice letter afterwards, explaining why he chose Arse over Spurs.

Who does, and why should they - it will probably be another ten years before these fishy "rules" are being imposed, and they will probably be littered with tailor made loopholes for the billionaires that fill up FIFA's pockets.

Could be a clever move to alert the G14 that a deal is imminent so if you want me 'up the bid now'

I can see us stringing things out with him til August and then him getting tinkled off with it and going elsewhere. There are some very good and avialable targets out there who would strengthen us a lot: Vertonghan, Hoilett, Adebayor. Would should wrap these up early
