No african that is not the case. have thought this for several years which is why I have never been drawn into the conversation of buying players for backup unless that are young with bags of potential. The problem with the average backup player is that is what they are, backup, and not as good as what you have, not even close to.
Now I appreciate that if a player is so good, like Bale that it is nearly impossible to sign for us and walk in and take Bale's place in the starting lineup, that is because he is a very special player. But I would have hoped we would be interested in signing players that would give the likes of Lennon and Ade a run for their money so that when these players are not available there is not such a major drop off.
I see you have forgotten so soon two seasons prior to a very bad injury in a CL match when Valencia was playing on the right and Nani on the left that the former looked not only the superior winger but the best left right winger in the country. He then suffered a very bad injury and had a very long time out of the game. I can assure you his current run of formis not the first time he has excelled for Man Utd.
I rate Hoilet highly, a young player with bags of potential and would love him at Spurs. My problem is that when people use the term backup I think of players like Steven Pienaar, a player I did not really rate and came here to a squadd filling job without ever excelling at any one position
As for sessagnon I have nothing against him, but I want us to buy players in positions we need not just to take up spaces in our squad. Can you enlighten me as to what position he acutally plays, all I know is that he is an attacking players of sorts with a decent goal return? Not sure if he is a winger? If so which wing? Could h eplay with VDV or instead of VDV? you know me I have a weakness for 2 strikers anyway
valencia has never played consistently on the left wing though, nani played there i thought. and two seasons ago? you're right i cant quite remember who the personell was but ever since ronaldo left, nanin has slotted in seamlessly and IMO was widely considered to be united's main wing threat,. but i could be wrong about the general perception by a majority of football fans out there.
also i dont think that this is the first time he has excelled, he has been very good for united for quite a while, but as a squad player as opposed to a guaranteed first team starter that has not shift in regard, at least not a significant shift, when compared with nani.
if you saw valencia several years ago as similar / near enough as good as nani with as little exposure and marketing he (valencia) has? then nice one, i made a bad assumption there tbh. but i'll say this though.....quite a lot of people would put nani as the starter and valencia as the squad player
sessengnon plays RM, RWF, SS ..i think .
pienaar is wierd though, he really was on bad form but is as good a back up plaer as you can find anywhere. but he was consistently playing average for us and didnt propel our starting lineup significantly
