It depends who you're playing. IF you're away against a team with 3 in the centre of midfield. You'll get overrun if the home team go for it.
As opposed to 2 CMs which has been even worse
How has it been worse? We played 4-4-2 til Jan and we were in the top 3. Since then we've been playing this stupid 4-3-3 formation when we dont have a viable 3 man midfield
