*** Tottenham Hotspur vs. Burnley FC OMT ***

A few reports saying Sissoko was lucky not to see red for his tackle on Ward. I didn't think it warranted a red at the time, but what do others think?

Definite red for me. Goes in with his studs showing in knee height. No malicious intent, granted, but that could've broken his leg. Should've been off, in my opinion.

Great work from him on our second goal though! :) Rose was fantastic today, what an effort! Winks as well, I thought, did very well.

Never a red.

I know Dyche disagrees, but it was a yellow no more.

It wasn't dangerous or reckless, just mistimed and he was actually pulling out of it.

Compare it Taylor on Walker and it's a different planet.

That was the attempted beheading, right? If anyone dares mutter about a red for Sissoko for that challenge, I'd like to go back and show that one to them and ask if they're quite the same thing.

You need to get on the phone to Dyche.

How they didn’t get a man sent off is impossible. He then set up the goal.
It is a decision which is so obviously a sending-off.
You cannot go into a challenge blind, with your hands over your face and a high foot and then stay on the pitch.
I didn’t see it at the time when it happened, in regards to him staying on the pitch, and I have looked at it afterwards and I still cannot see it.
We are told that high feet in that sort of challenge is an offence.
In my opinion it is a sending-off and I have watched it back

Unless his legs are made of balsa wood there was nowhere near enough force to do any damage, as evidenced by his miraculous recovery.

He didn't jump in, the guy's foot / leg wasn't planted, it was just a rap on the top of the shin.

I thought it was a red card. Studs first, knee high, it is a red card every day. I don't think it was intentional or that he made much contact, but it's still a red. We got lucky there.

I also thought he should never have been banned for the Bournemoth incident, so I suppose he got away with on now and was hardly punished back then.

The man sounds like he's had a ice-encrusted hammer taken to his adam's apple at dawn every day for the last thirty years. I wouldn't know if it was him on the other end of the line or an agitated Kermit re-enactor with catarrh.

I'm sorry, but Sissoko's foul can't be described as:

"A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play."

As per the laws of the game.

Took a while to make any sense of the formation watching it at WHL, but the freedom and remit to attack that Poch gave to Rose and Walker is what gave us the goals. Rose got a knock around the time of the corner just before HT, and he had to do a sprint just before the break which didn't help him any. After HT he still looked pretty uncomfortable and was out-run a couple of times, but he dug in and continued his great performance until after his goal when you could see he was totally done in. I'm glad of the long gap to the next game so he can recover properly. It's an utter joy watching him play right now, he's so brave, dedicated and dangerous. Nice to see Sissoko turn on a few moments of brilliance today. Burnley were well organised and not a complete bore - they were happy to go forward as well as mostly tight in defence and they didn't give up right to the whistle. No push over. Most of our best chances were shots from distance as that's all they left themselves open to.

Of course no mention of the one from Lowton on Alli first half which didn't even get a yellow, or the two subsequent yellow card offences Ward committed which would've seen him off for a second yellow...(sigh)
Dyche loves to hear himself talk, very full of himself, as evidenced on his 5 Live appearances. Burnley were OK, they played well and he does well with what he has, but time will show Dyche to be a 'nouveau Northern Harry'!

And obviously no mention of that Barnes constantly niggled and fouled without picking up a 2nd yellow.

Only watched the game after the fact and knowing the score.

Thought we put in alright performance, though some way from our best. Easily the better team and a deserved win. Another good game from Winks in the league was good to see.

Not a red card for Sissoko for me. His foot is high and his studs are showing, but he's not going into the tackle with any real power, his leg isn't straight so I think the chance of a serious injury is fairly small. Somewhat silly to give the ref the option to send you off in that situation though.

Great to get another win and close in on the top 4.

Sissoko could have been sent off by another ref on another day, however i do think he tried to pull his leg back and meant no harm. But as i say another day another ref he could have gone.

Indeed, i think this is why the ref only booked him. At the time it could be seen that he was later in the challenge trying to pull his leg back

Why the fudge do we get that brick Tony Gale commentating on so many of our games?

According to him it was all Dele's fault for dwelling on the ball. "And again he was a little bit slow in possession, that's why he got caught. Needs to be a little bit sharper. Nothing wrong with the tackle" he said, even as tv replays were showing Lowton going in with studs over the ball.

I could not believe how much Gale kept harping on about what he perceived to be Dele's sloppiness through most of the first half. He's made no secret in the past of his animosity towards Tottenham which makes it all the more baffling how often he gets our gigs.
