*****Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester ***OMT

How is that not well described as poor form?

*Why* are they in poor form? Why are they so much worse than players who are equally as marked, who are equally as tired, and who are equally as forced to play every game? Why is Harry so much more able to look dangerous and committed than they are, even though he's marked more than they are (and is actually *younger* than Eriksen is, I think)?

Yes, they are in very bad form (in the league) - have been since the end of the break. But *why*?

These things happen over a season for almost all players in the world.

Kane's certainly had his poor runs of form. Luckily they've been fairly short, luckily he's not in one right now. But he's certainly had them.

Why do you expect players like Eriksen and Alli to go through a season without those drops in form. Why isn't the "this happens" answer to your why question the most obvious one?

It’s a fair question. Dele was injured during the break. Eriksen had two vital internationals.
Maybe that has some bearing on their post-break form.
I’m not disputing they are not up to their usual standards (alrhough Dele has often gone through games seemingly without much impact, only to produce something out of nowhere.). I am disputing that it is an issue of bad attitude.

Because we have had results and performances like these this season.
That's not a convincing reason at all. Unless you think there's only one reason for poor performances?

You really think top managers around the world are just wasting their time rotating players?

xG is awful, and I don't care who knows it.

Poch has basically admitted that we played like absolute t*rds in the first half. And, second half, those two in particular *still* looked woeful as everyone else (even the triple-marked Kane) stepped up to varying degrees. There's a reason for that, and it isn't because Vicente Iborra and Wilfried Ndidi are suddenly world-class defensive midfielders.

So you don’t think we had the better goal scoring chances in this game?

I’ve just watched 30 minute highlights on Sky Sports and looked like we should’ve won this comfortably but for a brace of Goal of the Month contenders.

So Poch is not a top manager? I mean he constantly sticks with a core of the team. Is this his downfall and the reason we will never be successful?

Ok, let's say he rested those players and we lost the game in Dortmund. Two defeats in a row going into the West Brim game. Is it possible that would have had a negative effect anyway?

The players are not tired. Too many of them are out of form for us.

We played well second half, and with just something going our way, we would have won comfortably! But we're in a rotten bit of luck atm, as well as quite a few players out of form. Dier was diabolical today. Worst I've seen from a Spurs player for a long time. Thank GHod Lamela is back. Now we need Wanyama and Toby back too, and get back to winning ways again.

Dier wasn't great but Kane (quite rightly) gets a pass when he looks tired, maybe Dier and Eriksen are too. They play every minute. Would be lovely to get Wanyama and Toby back.

Maybe we should revert to a 4-2-3-1 while Wanyama and Alderweireld are out.

It's not awful. It's simply factual. It tells us that we created some very bloody good chances that we should have taken. It's up to you what you want to take from that data.

I have my pet peeves with xG - primarily centred on the way every man and his dog assigns a different weighting to the various components of any given chance, to the point where it becomes essentially meaningless and is just one man or woman's opinion on a game, *but with stats*. Everyone can assign a different value to a particular part of a chance and come up with a different xG plot. That's my peeve - it's worthless given that fact. Michael Caley has his own equation, Sky have their own equation, and a million other twitter statisticians have their own.

Mauricio Pochettino accused his Tottenham players of lacking fight in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Leicester in the Premier League.

Leicester duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez scored brilliant first-half goals before Harry Kane halved the deficit late on to leave Spurs with four points from their last five league games.

"They were more aggressive than us. We need to learn and fight from the first minute," the Spurs manager said after the match. "If you don't fight in the Premier League the quality gap is even.

"You cannot afford no fight. You cannot win games. If you don't compete in the Premier League you are going to struggle.

"It's difficult to analyse the game. We start so sloppy. The performance in first half disappointed us a lot. First you must compete and fight and be focused and then quality will appear.

"Leicester showed more than us today. Ready to fight in the first half. Even if the game was open and we had chances to score and stay in the game we were poor and this is disappointing and frustrating. It's difficult to know why. Not about tactics or systems or selections. It's about the collective. The collective performance was so poor.

"Second half we competed, we fight, and in the end the game finished 2-2 or 2-3 we deserved it. We weren't clinical in front of the goal. We had easy chances to score."

Well, Poch doesn't agree with the Occam's Razor 'just happens' interpretation, either. And I think he suspects their attitude as well.

Im still not seeing anything that points to bad attitude from Eriksen and Dele.
But we’ll have to disagree.
I’m off to bed before I turn into a carriage.
