Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

"The Lane" or 'White Hart Lane' will continue to be used by those who are familiar with the current ground. But as new generations come along the name will gradually morph into whatever the new stadium will be officially named. All we nostalgists can do is try to pass on the history and heritage of the current name to those who will follow in our footsteps and hope it will continue to be referenced in the future.

Nicholson is a shoe in but Greaves & Hoddle should be in the conversation even though they are still alive. For me they are Tottenham

I don't see that happening if the term WHL is kept in the consciousness of younger supporters through terrace chants and what not from the beginning

Totally agree, but as I regularly attend cricket I've rarely heard anyone refer to the Kia or Foster Oval, is always just the Oval, but cricket watchers tend to be more traditional and not slaves to the media and marketing, unless it's the macarons who attend T20.

That is only because it was called the Oval before it became the Kia or Fosters Oval. It would be like White Hart Lane being called the Nike Hart Lane. Everyone is used to the old name.

But with a new stadium. Its a totally different kettle of fish. Its more or less on the same location but it will never have been named White Hart Lane. That is why the sponsorship is worth more. It wont get lost by the media.

One wonders if things were as acrimonious between the two parties as we might believe. Archway's resistance might well have been a crafty implement to slow down the process, alarm local politicians and ensure the club got the best possible deal before the stadium went forward.

Whatever. I'm glad to see a sense of good will emerge with this story. The owner of Archway always professed his love of Spurs.

I cannot agree with you there, as I say I've been watching cricket for over 60 years a rarely hear regular followers refer to their one day teams by the silly americanized names, there is a greater sense of tradition in the game despite whatever the people who want to make money out of the game and are prepared to do anything to get it. I'm sure a lot of modern fans would and will call our ground whatever they are told to, but I certainly wont. I love sports games for the skill, the element competition and the camaraderie and couldn't give a toss about the money, it has only harmed sport. Here I expect a lot of people saying there would be no sport without the money, but what they really mean is there would be no professional sport, with all it's doping, cheating and total lack of sportsmanship.
 
We will call it whatever the media drum into the masses. The "Emitates" aka Ashburton grove is pretty much what we are up against.

has there ever been any comparable stadium builds in England? because i feel its far too unique of a situation to compare to The Emirates

I would agree but just look at the names banded around now from the aviva to the amex, emirates to bet 365.

We are not special no matter what our personal feelings

It's not about feeling different, it's that factually our build is unique to the others in that we're building on top of our current stadium - if we were moving to the other end of the high road or whatever then I'd agree
