The youth players/on-loan thread 2014-2015

Tom Carrol Captained the U21's last night and got the only goal in a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic in Prague.
BBC report refers to the 'impressive' Carrol, who also cleared off the line, and there's also a nice mench for Pritchard:

England U21: Carroll strike secures win over Czech Republic
Tom Carroll's second-half strike gave England Under-21s a 1-0 win in the Czech Republic - and a 12th win in 13 games for Gareth Southgate's side.

The Tottenham midfielder, who is on a season-long loan with Swansea, scored soon after the break in Prague, capitalising on a goalkeeping mistake.

Watford's Matej Vydra went closest for the hosts in the first half when his shot was cleared off the line.

The U21 European Championships will be held in Czech Republic in the summer.

England lost 3-2 in France in their last match in November, after they had won their previous 11 games, but they returned to the winner's circle after a gritty display at the Letna Stadium.

In the 12th minute, Alex Pritchard picked out Cauley Woodrow, who turned and shot just over the bar as England began brightly.

However, the Czechs were more dangerous in the rest of first half and Carroll cleared a Matej Vydra shot from a corner off the line shortly before the half-hour.

Three minutes into the second half Gareth Southgate's side edged ahead thanks to an opportunistic goal from the impressive Carroll.

Nathan Redmond did superbly to nip between two players in midfield before he spread the play out to Chambers.

The Arsenal defender's cross was fumbled by Czech goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka and back out into the area, where Carroll arrived to stroke the ball home.

Carroll, who captained the side, was withdrawn later in the half after he picked up a knock and was replaced by Derby's Will Hughes.

But England's players finished the game strongly and apart from Ondrej Petrak's shot, which flashed past the post, England goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli remained largely untroubled.

Don't yet know the line-up but hoping to watch Carroll and Pritchard tonight in the England U21 friendly vs Germany U21 live on BT sport.

Excellent game, quality goals from both sides. Pritchard was impressive when he came on, his imaginative passing added that bit extra to our attacking moves, not only for the equaliser, he could easily have netted himself late on or got an assist had Ings put away the rebound from his shot.

Post match comments:

Commie: "David(James), you thought Pritchard made a big difference when he came on?"

"Oh absolutely, when he's come on, driving run there playing the ball in for the goal. I watched him in the last game against the Czech Republic, I thought he was outstanding in that match, and for him to come on and do that again, I mean we're talking about these players who're trying to put themselves in the frame, he's got to be up there now."

Commie: "Interesting, especially for Pritchard, because one of the benefactors (sic) of comment declaring who's NOT going to go during the summer, it could be a player like Pritchard?"

Phil Neville: "Yes, Pritchard, Lingard as well tonight, both made real impact. Lingard's got his goal, Pritchard's come on and actually changed the game, he's got England back into it with his movement down that left-hand side, so there are one or two places still up for grabs, looks like they've taken it tonight"

Watched him carefully tonight, he changed the game. Passed and moved quickly. A beautiful dummy nearly set up a goal and then did get an assist. Really wanted the ball. Had a shot that the keeper fluffed and Ings should have scored the rebound.

Looked more than decent.

If Brentford don't get play offs he comes back before the end of our season. Maybe he will get some time on the pitch.

would prefer pritch gets a lower prem loan before joining us. I think he could make an impact, but the rotation wont help his development, so unless we actively look to move on a combination of chadli/townsend would rather he got another season of developing even further by playing all the time.

The same rotation that didn't help Kane's development?

I think Pritchard is a player we can be excited and hopeful about. He has a lot of flair. And he has can finish. He can pass. These are surprisingly rare attributes as a combo in young English players.
