The youth players/on-loan thread 2014-2015

Jordan Archer didn't have the best of days:

Disaster struck for the Cobblers on 67 minutes. A harmless Myles Weston cross was floated into Archer but the goalkeeper spilt it and, although Corr did not initially realise, he did collect the loose ball and took it around Archer, who put out a hand and brought the striker down.

Archer was sent off for the incident and Corr buried the penalty, high into the roof of the net.

What's even better to hear is that they did so with two 16 year olds making their debuts. The OS has a nice summary of the game.

Norwich have a good academy

They do. Although, looking at the current U18 Southern section table, Norwich are currently bottom, with only 5 points from 13 games.

Nevertheless, still an impressive result given that it was a young team missing five or six of its best eligible players.

I notice that as well as Kyle Walker in tonights u21 squad Khumalo also features. Haven't noticed him playing this season for them, or has he been? If the rumours regarding Kaboul are true but don't really think he could go from Captain to outcast that quickly, then maybe Poch wants a look at Khumalo to see if he is up to it. Although more likely is its a coupld of games prior to January so he is match fit to get rid.

Squad tonight:
McGee, Voss, Akindayini, Ball, Carter-Vickers, Coulthirst, Khumalo, Lesniak, Miller, Oduwa, Ogilvie, Onomah, Sonupe, Walker, Walker-Peters, Winks.

Spurs U21s: McGee, Walker, Ogilvie, Lesniak, Ball, Khumalo (c), Winks, Onomah, Coulthirst, Miller, Oduwa

Emirates Marketing Project U21s: Gunn, Smith-Brown, Maffeo, Evans, Tasende, Glendon (c), Ambrose, Ntcham, Hiwula, Bytyqi, Barker

GOAL! Coulthirst nods home Oduwa's right-sided cross at the back post. 1-0, 27mins

GOAL! Second goal for @ShaqCoulthirst - he tucks home at back post after Onomah fed Winks and he whipped low across box. 2-0, 37mins

HT: Spurs 2-0 Emirates Marketing Project - Largely one-way traffic, City's Bytygi hit side netting, Coulthirst header saved

MCFC have a goal back as Bytygi's cross from the right is volleyed home by Celina from 12 yards. 2-1, 70mins

Penalty to City. Ogilvie tripped Bytygi in the box. 2-1, 89mins.

PENALTY SAVED! McGee saves Evans' spot kick low to his right! 2-1, 90mins

FT: Spurs 2-1 Emirates Marketing Project - Visitors had more chances after break but McGee's late heroics won us the points

Shaq's back? Thought he was out on loan. Wonder if he might make the bench in some of the upcoming games before xmas?

Wouldnt be a bad chrismas present to have Walker back for the Burnley or Saudi Sportswashing Machine match

Don't know if he's permanently back, but either way he played today because he can't get into an average league two side.

Gazundheit.

So, did Walker come through abdominally unscathed?

I'm sure there will be something on the OS by tomorrow.

'Great to get some minutes under my belt'

'Just lacking match fitness'

'Thanks for all your support'

They don't even make him say it, it pretty much writes itself.

He might still be on loan.

If memory serves, youth loans allow for the player to return to his parent club to play in the occasional friendly or youth game - just to touch base again.

That is correct and his manager at Southend said he was coming along tonight to watch so despite the fact he is on the bench a lot at Southend the manager obviously thinks the is something there.

Coulthirst is allowed to play for our U21's as part of his loan agreement according to the match report on the OS.

His loan allows him to play for us if he hasn't played for their first team that week.... Which, he hasn't at all recently, which is a shame, as he is (potentially) a lot better than that.... I think we need to get him back to the club now and either get him a better loan or keep him playing under 21 football.

Re: Which youngster will break through this season?

If It isn't working for him at that level then I wouldn't be afraid to drop him lower down to get going. Especially when it comes to strikers as most of the time it's about confidence. I look at Britt Assombalonga at Forest he came through at Watford his first loan was to Wealdstone, then of the isthmian premier division(level 7) he proved himself moved up to the conference national with Braintree then to Southend and so on.
Obviously it could shatter his confidence if he doesn't do well.

Coulthirst did quite well in League two last year playing for a Torquay side scrapping for survival. He scored a couple and got a couple of assists IIRC. He did get a couple of goals for Southend early on this year, but then their form dropped and the manager in turn changed the personel and system. It's working and Coulthirst isn't getting a look in whilst the players up that end of the field are finding the back of the net. Southend are in the playoff places too, so no chance the manager is gonna mess with a system to include a 20 year old loanee whilst they are going steady. IMO he should be recalled and sent to a different club where he will get a chance.
