The transfer thread

I would think there is a gap between the Son and Rice salaries before bonuses. Havertz earns even more as their highest earner.

My instinct that the on target earning (base + salary) of the top Arsenal earners is still higher. Logically, our revenues are similar but Spurs have the stadium costs. That probably creates a gap on the salary side.

I could be wrong though.
I’m sure they are paying more now

they went through a process to pay off their big earners
We have done similar but in a different way
I’ve never understood the fans obsession with playing big wages. A sensible club pays the minimum they can get away with

It's due to the correlation between wages paid and the quality of the player you can attract. Now of course you don't have to necessarily be the ones paying the absolute top wages but we couldn't have the quality of squad we have now with Crystal Palace's wage budget and likewise we can't get a squad of City's quality with our current wage spend (unless we scout exceptionally well and strike early in a players career).

The gaps in that squad are the reason it didn't win anything.

No, the gaps are the reason that squad didn't win multiple things

Lloris, Rose Walker, Toby, Jan, Eriksen, Dembele, Dele, Son, Kane didn't win against a Ranieri Leicester side, that's on the manager.

LOL, we definitely took over from Arsenal at the top of the league for wasted salaries.

I disagree as that year we were never the actual contenders. Arsenal were the side in first place in Feb, we were just the side that was up there that didn't fall away like City and Arsenal did. It made it seem like we were going for the league but we were never close points wise. A minimum of 7 points separated us and Leicester.

That manager took us somewhere we could barely dream of. Not a single one of us thought we could win the title the year before Leicester won it. I think even the most optimistic of us on here were hoping for 4th and champions league. Don't try to rewrite history.

Pochettino should be here under this scouting team and transfer budget… I have no doubt we would cross the line

You think Leicester thought the year before they could win it while struggling to avoid relegation? life is about taking your chances, unlike in every other scenario where we lost to City/Chelsea/etc., we lost the Pl title to a Leicester side managed by a fudging journeyman manager.

No rewrite of history, failed to take the moment, failed to manage the discipline of the team, failed to get the most out of the most talented version of Spurs we have had in decades ..

For context, only two of those Leicester players have shown themselves to be close to elite post that season, Walker, Son & Kane are still playing at elite level, Jan, Toby, Demebele, Eriksen even in hindsight were top level players, Dele in that moment, elite ..

Bro the issue is we had a poor start to the season (although we didn't think it was poor at the time because it was just our typical start to the season) and then once we were up and running Leicester were already ahead and we had no chance to catch them. For us to actually catch them they had to drop points which they didn't do. So for you to now say we failed to take the moment, in a round about sure but we never even expected to get too 4 that season. Circumstances meant that our form that was typical of a top 3/4 finish was enough to run as runner ups (until the Chelsea game).
