** The Tottenham vs Arsenal NLD Official Match Thread **

Makes a HOOOOGE difference this time of the season

Thats why we need Everton to need something in the last game. They've been playing a very dogged style recently and that's exactly what Arsenal don't want. Like the latter year Wenger teams, they don't fancy a fight. If Everton play as they did v Liverpool or Leicester, they can get something.

If they're safe, I could see them almost rolling over and Fat Frank won't want to do us any favours.

I reckon Everton probably only need one win out of next two to be safe - Brentford or Palace - which I think they’ll get. I don’t think we can rely on them needing anything on the final day as they’ll likely be on the beach by then. Toon is the key!

The red card is only in doubt if the ref takes a very lenient, one last chance even though that was definitely a second yellow approach. As refs sometimes do.

The penalty is fine. They don't always get given, I'm not sure VAR overturns that or tells the ref to watch it again if he doesn't give it the first time. It was on the blatant side of those kinds of situations though. As long as the ref sees it clearly I think it's given most of the time.

They were poor, looking for excuses. We were good and need none.
I think Neville got it spot on for the pen when he said Cedric went in too early, you'd normally get away with those bumps in the air if it at least looks like you've gone for the ball but there was no ball to go for.

He warned Holding twice, he could have been booked 4 times in 33 minutes, thought the ref was rather lenient and probably was rather annoyed that he had to send him off, it was absolute madness from baldy.

In real time I thought the penalty was as stone wall as it gets, think on replays it isn't as obvious but it's a clear, cynical foul - he thought he was being sly and it backfired majorly.

I get that all fans think the media / refs etc are out to get them but I just can't with this lot, it's utterly embarrassing and unlike prime Mourinho, Pep, Klopp etc Arteta isn't very good at deflecting away from what was an incredibly poor, mentally weak display from his side.

The penalty should have been a booking as well - no attempt to play the ball.

Lovely stuff.

The thing is, it is likely the Burnley game will be the classic 'after the lord mayor's show'. But this doesnt mean just for the players, but also the fans.

It is unrealistic to expect the same atmosphere for playing Burnley as playing the Goons, but if the fans could get the atmosphere somewhere close to last night considering whats at stake it could make a massive difference and really help the team get this game over the line. Hopefully being the last game of the season aswell the fans will make sure its buzzing....

Yes, Arteta's tactic is obvious but when the decisions are as clear cut as they were last night, it just makes him look like a fool

Just had a quick trip to Arsemania and most of them still seem to be blaming the ref, so their own fans seem just as deluded as their manager.

Somewhat reminiscent of our Leicester season under Poch. It came just too early for us. Let's hope they implode too.
My hunch is that they won't. I am hoping Saudi Sportswashing Machine shows up and gives them a game, but they can get a win there with some luck. Everton will be safe by the last matchday, so that should be a W for them. Them imploding is more wishful hoping on our part. But let's see. We will know where we stand on Monday evening.

I think the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game is 50/50 whether they win it.

Last game of the season for them at home...particularly if arsenal have White and Tomiyasu as their CB partnership...Callum Wilson and Chris Wood will be licking their lips! Arsenal will also be able to get at the Saudi Sportswashing Machine defence too though

Key is whether we can win such that Arsenal need to win. As above, if a Saudi Sportswashing Machine win or a draw is good for us, I think its a coin flip

Holding should have been off when he kicked Son in the back.

From the Grauniad minute-by-minute coverage.

12 min: Now Holding wrestles Son to the ground and refuses to let go. The pair tumble around in the DH-Lawrence-approved style. Son springs up livid, and squares up. Kane steps in to calm his partner down. Holding walks off wearing a cheeky grin, clearly on the wind-up. He’s fortunate to escape a booking for his carry-on of the last 60 seconds or so.

26 min: Nominative Determinism’s Rob Holding is booked for, yes, grappling with Son. He’s been all over the pace so far. He could easily have been sent off already.

RED CARD! Holding (Arsenal)

33 min: It’s fair to say this had been coming. Dier launches long down the middle. Son chases after the ball. He’s stopped unceremoniously by Holding, who cynically steps in, shoulder first. Pow, right in the kisser. A second yellow and he’s off. What a bone-headed performance!

35 min: That could easily have been a straight red, never mind a second yellow. Factor in the unpunished toe-punt to Son’s back, and Holding did enough for two reds and a yellow in 33 minutes of football! What a galoot.

It's hard to disagree with that. The sending off wiped the smile off his face, for sure.
