Milner -- Parker -- Gerrard -- Downing

Had to get excited about that midfield isn't it?!

Oh well, at least it's hard-working; hopefully Young and Welbeck can do some damage on the break.

I really struggle to support England though ... 8 of the 11 starters are from Chelsea, Emirates Marketing Project or victims - the 3 PL teams that I hate the most (yes, more than Arsenal). Young is a diver. I find Welbeck's celebration incredibly irritating for some reason.

I'll be watching more as an interested observer I think.

Come on Scotty!

P.S. Luka was beautiful to watch today. Don't think he got any assists or goals, but it was a superb performance; I wonder (genuinely) what people who criticise him for a lack of goals or assists thought about him today?

Interesting reading your opinions on the Given 'own goal', I'd watch the goal again myself except I think I might cry.

I believed Ireland could go through if they got a win today but now I'm sure we'll be out in the group stage. I hope we keep playing though and hopefully take someone [Italy] down with us.

Really disappointed with Ireland. Never thought they would be this shyte. Croatia were not that good but Ireland badly lacked of any quality to compete. Ireland used to be one of my favourite teams in the 1990s when they were full of top quality players from EPL. But almost all their players are now either past-their best like Keane and Given or average to shyte players.

i know i know

shhhhhhhhh to all the haterz

The haters should give Pavly due respect. Pavly now has 4 goals in Euro and only need :
- 6 goals to overtake Platini as the all-time top scorer in Euro
- 2 more goals to overtake Klinsmann as all-time Spurs top scorer in Euro

It is difficult but not impossible. So, Pavly, a legend in the making !

Lovely fact, Such a good finisher its just such a shame he could never full on show off what he has got in the locker with us.

WeÔÇÖve got the best back five in Europe ÔÇô thatÔÇÖs why we can win this tournament

HAVING A BALL ... Betfair ambassador Harry Redknapp can't wait to watch England

HARRY REDKNAPP may have missed out on the England job but he is still the biggest fan of his countryÔÇÖs team.

  • And he reckons we have the players to provide a massive shock to those who thought our European Championship hopes had vanished in the turmoil of the last few weeks.
Injuries have sidelined an entire line-up of internationals, Rio Ferdinand has been controversially left out and Wayne Rooney is banned for the first two Group D matches.
Yet Redknapp insists Roy Hodgson has the best set of defenders in the tournament, even without Ferdinand, Gary Cahill and Kyle Walker.
He feels Joe Hart between the sticks, Glen Johnson and Ashley Cole at full-back and John Terry partnering Joleon Lescott in the centre is as good as any back five there is.
The Tottenham manager declared: ÔÇ£I wouldnÔÇÖt write us off. Roy has them well organised and we have outstanding players.
ÔÇ£The goalkeeper is as good as any and Ashley ColeÔÇÖs the best left-back.
ÔÇ£John Terry and Joleon Lescott? I canÔÇÖt see there being a better central defensive pair. There also wonÔÇÖt be too many better right-backs than Glen Johnson around. I donÔÇÖt think youÔÇÖll find a superior back five ÔÇö and that gives Roy a great base to work from.

ÔÇ£HeÔÇÖll have them well organised to do their jobs and they will be strong.
ÔÇ£In front of them Stevie Gerrard and Scott Parker are powerful. Then you are looking for that bit of flair up front to win you the games.ÔÇØ
Redknapp concedes skipper Gerrard needs to be at his influential best in central midfield, with England missing crocked Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry.
Video: Harry: I would've picked Rio

HARRY REDKNAPP reckons Rio Ferdinand is still one of the best there is

Redknapp said: ÔÇ£Frank is a miss and so is Gareth Barry but you werenÔÇÖt going to play both of them as Scott Parker looks a fixture and Gerrard certainly will play.
ÔÇ£Again, we are strong enough in there, itÔÇÖs only the amount of games that could take its toll on the midfield.ÔÇØ
Redknapp makes no secret of the fact he would have taken Ferdinand. He even had an approach rejected by Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson two summers ago and still thinks the 33-year-old is world-class.
ÔÇÖArry added: ÔÇ£We did ask about him at Tottenham. Alex didnÔÇÖt want to sell him.ÔÇØ
Redknapp rates Hodgson fortunate he can now turn to one of the top performers in the Premier League last season in Lescott.
He said: ÔÇ£The Cahill injury is a blow, as I love him as a player and tried to sign him as well.
ÔÇ£But I also think Lescott is a good player and there isnÔÇÖt anything between them.ÔÇØ
With Redknapp offering his opinion as an ambassador for Betfair, he believes the Three Lions are good value as an outside bet.

Especially as they could have Rooney returning fresh from suspension for the business end of the tournament.
And finishing ahead of France, Sweden and Ukraine would land a favourable quarter-final opponent if defending champs Spain perform as expected in Group C.
Redknapp stated: ÔÇ£If we can win our group we go into the second round to play ÔÇö assuming Spain win Group C ÔÇö Croatia, the Republic of Ireland or an Italian team that seems to be in turmoil. ItÔÇÖs not impossible.
ÔÇ£Wayne coming back when he does could work for England.

ÔÇ£ItÔÇÖs important we hang in there. The first two games are going to be tight and they could even both be draws.
ÔÇ£Then we have Rooney back to play Ukraine and I could see us winning that one.
ÔÇ£The two favourites are Germany and Spain but England are good value at their price and an outsider would be Portugal.ÔÇØ
Redknapp, 65, could be forgiven for hoping England fail. After all, he was red-hot favourite for the managerÔÇÖs job when Fabio Capello quit but the FA went with Hodgson instead.
Yet he just wants England to end 46 trophyless years.
He said: ÔÇ£I never felt that way. I didnÔÇÖt wake up the day after Roy got the job and think about anything like that. ItÔÇÖs not a problem for me.
ÔÇ£IÔÇÖve a great job at Tottenham and enjoy the day-to-day involvement of managing a football club.
ÔÇ£I donÔÇÖt know if I would have been happy. IÔÇÖm not a person who would want to be with the players once every couple of months and do all the other stuff that goes with it.

ÔÇ£They made a decision and I wish them all the best.
ÔÇ£I like Roy very much and wish him every success ÔÇö and I genuinely mean that. I want to see us do well. IÔÇÖm very proud to be English.
ÔÇ£What would be ideal? England to win it and, if the draw lets us, by beating Germany in the final.ÔÇØ

Where is everybody watching the game tonight, with it being 5pm kick off its hardly ideal time for a lot of people..

My boss has hired an area in the wine bar we use in the city, nice place but always very stuffy, reserved and full of toffs, be interesting to see how it is tonight with England playing, also its ?ú4.75 for a bottle of beer with no beer on draught too, bargain haha, im hoping he pays

I've booked half day annual leave, which I thought would be ideal. :D

Stupid thing is that mate of mine is eager to watch game in a specific bar & I'm not fussed about that place. I'd prefer to watch game at home, able to see the TV, with cheaper snacks & beers.

He talks of the atmosphere that a pub viewing can provide but, to me, that can mean beer spilled over you, unable to see half the screen and idiots talking brick through the game.

Damn, I must be too old. :(

1:56 is possibly the best angle.. though i'm still not 100% sure... But Given's head looks about the same as the line..

Edit: I'm not even sure the ball is going into the net if Given wasn't there..

It wouldn't have done. However, Bentley scored a FK in the 9-1 IIRC that was very similar and put down as a Kirkland OG. It was later changed to his goal by the dubious goals committee.

IMO, it's a lovely header but not on target, therefore Given OG.

Redknapp's such a cheeky ****

Heeeeave the pressure on Hodgson by saying we can win the fudging thing :ross:

I'm not sure if SSN are more excited about covering the England game, or the trouble... it's a close call, but you can REALLY imagine Gary Cotterill or Brian Ssssssssssssssssssssssssswanssssssssssson plying rival fans with booze, before telling them 'that lot called you ****s' and letting all hell break loose... but NOT before training the SKY SPORTS NEWS CAMERAS on all the action'

sleazy seedy ****s!

England team for tonight:

Hart; Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Cole; Milner, Gerrard, Parker, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Young; Welbeck
