Theres no doubting that, but as much as you say people are reading news on internet it doesnt appear to be sinking in as I find less people have any idea of what is happening in the world or even where they live, but they do know who's won celebrity come dine on first date with me in the kitchen with ant and dec.

I find this to a degree as well, but crucially it is the type of people. Basically anyone with a Facebook account is both a macaron and a cnut.

I'd say yes and no. As a tool for analyzing what came about in a specific game, it can have its use. But as a foundation for team decisions it's useless. It's like picking your lottery numbers based on which was drawn last time. Statistics as a whole is given too much weight in football (and sports in general).

Its like having 3 numbers and saying “if i had got 3 more i would have won the lottery”

Stats don’t tell the full story, look at individual stats, everyone is worried about goals and assists but the likes of Modric and Xavi never had big numbers but were still 2 of the best players of all time. Stats are only used to back up peoples arguments and don’t determine the game, the result does.
 
Premier League: Eight Brazil players stopped from playing for their clubs this weekend

Brazil invoked the bans after the Premier League stopped players from appearing for their country if it meant travel to red list countries.

Players travelling to red list countries would have had to miss several games on their return because of the 10-day isolation period required under UK rules.

In addition to missing their sides' weekend games, Chelsea defender Thiago Silva and Manchester United midfielder Fred will also not be allowed to play in their teams' opening Champions League games against Zenit St Petersburg and Young Boys next Tuesday.

The move also affects three Liverpool players, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alisson; Emirates Marketing Project pair Ederson and Gabriel Jesus; and Leeds forward Raphinha, who had been called into the Brazil squad for the first time.

So Brazil invoke the ban for not releasing the players according to FIFA rules, even though it was Brazilian authorities who wouldn't allow players from the UK to play. So the punishment is supposedly for not releasing the players so they could travel to Brazil and be prevented from playing.

Good explanation. Yes, seems ridiculous, so by their rules the players were meant to go and sit in a hotel for 10 days and then fly back without kicking a ball.

Apparently the rules don't apply to Brazilians or there was some loophole created for their players. Either way, it very much looks like their plan was to have a full strength side against a weakened Argentina, but the opposite happened and now they're acting like a spoilt kid and taking their ball home.

That's pretty bad, I didn't realise that.

Really Fifa should have a rule that matches only go ahead in the original country if covid restrictions are fair to both teams.

Or, coordinate the international break for all team with a post game quarantine window.
If there isn't big change by the next round clubs will just say no and all stand together.

But that's what the clubs did this round just gone. Except as we saw to our detriment, it's all well and good the clubs taking a common stance, but you can't stop the players travelling if they want to.
