The Official 2014/15 Premier League Thread

Costa is a despicable character, isn't he? On the pitch at least. Can't stand him.

And the ref was on Chelsea's side today. Clear handball on Cahill towards the end. When you throw yourself towards the ball in an attempt to block a shot and the ball hits your arm, you gotta give a penalty.

But glad Chelsea won as it gives us a chance to get a few points' gap on Liverpool.

Personally, I like seeing strikers giving it back to defenders, especially ones like Skrtel and Shawcross.

Liverpool will say this isn't racist "just different cultural upbringing" in Liverpool

I just logged in to see if anyone else had spotted this.

I did laugh wondering what viewers in Asia would have thought of this.

DIfference in class between Liverpool and Chelsea, although on paper I suppose it's another spirited defeat for them. Despite getting the early goal they desperately needed through a lucky deflection Liverpool looked second best pretty much throughout.

Thought Mourinho got his tactics spot on. Stand off Liverpool just a bit and wait for them to give the ball away and get the counter attack or for chances to push up and press high when they work themselves into a corner. Had Hazard been a bit smarter with his finishing I think the game would have been over by the hour mark.

Edit: Sign of how far Liverpool have fallen in a season. The ultimate "grab a point away to the big teams" manager in Mourinho at 1-1 took off Ramires and put on Willian leaving himself with 4 rather lightweight technical midfielders. Didn't even bother putting Mikel on after taking the lead...

I dont understand comments like this - loser mentality as far as im concerned. Some on here are as bad as the players.

ManU with 72% possession against Palace, but needed a deflected long ranger from Mata that Speroni fumbled to win.

Overall its been a really poor season so far, for most, with a few exceptions of course.

I full expect QPR to beat City.

Southampton... fantastic achievement so far. 8 wins 1 draw and 2 losses.

Yes people will say they've lost to two teams they've faced that are supposed to be better than them (they were both away to be fair), and they have beaten teams like Hull, West Ham, Leicester, QPR, Swansea, Sunderland, Stoke and Saudi Sportswashing Machine. No doubt people will look at that list and say they haven't played any real teams yet and we know they have a very tough run of games coming up. But a win in the PL is a win. We are clearly struggling to beat teams just now, so to do it so frequently with pretty much a newly assembled side with little PL experience, with a boss with no PL experience... well it's pretty phenomenal.

I expect they'll ultimately still finish around 7th/8th

Consistency against the teams you should beat will see you finish above your main rivals, even if you lose to all the clubs above (in an extreme case the projected 8th team could get 72pts from the teams below them). If Southampton keep it up they have a very good chance of a Europa League place assuming at least one of the cup one's comes back to the league.

City need to start winning soon or Chelsea will be too far ahead. Failure to win today would see them 8 or 9 points behind and Chelsea won't be giving away lots of points.

qpr are crap and will probably lose, but, they have got themselves into this game by coming out and starting really fast, having a go at City and making them turn towards their own goal

I wish we would do that
