I don't know if this is recent for you as well, but Liverpool with the Dalgleish and Rodgers do seem to have alienated a lot of other fans. Somehow sympathy for a resurgent Liverpool has become annoyance and contempt. The press sycophancy, attitude of their fans, the tee-shirt, David Brent and various episodes with the persecuted biter have ruined their tradition.
Goes back to the 90s and their deluded, entitled fans.

And the ref was on Chelsea's side today. Clear handball on Cahill towards the end. When you throw yourself towards the ball in an attempt to block a shot and the ball hits your arm, you gotta give a penalty.
But glad Chelsea won as it gives us a chance to get a few points' gap on Liverpool.
