The Inbetween Transfer Windows Rumour Thread

If only it was prefaced with "Due to Llorente going to Spurs....."

I think Llorente will leave in January - he's been largerly 'frozen out' since the summer and features mostly as a sub during what has been so far a largerly disappointing season for Athletic

Him and Muniain on the double could be Levy's signature signing so far. ;)

Arsene Wenger is looking for answers from Arsenal's Brazilian defender Andre Santos after he swapped shirts at half-time in Saturday's game at Old Trafford with Manchester United striker Robin van Persie. Santos was caught on TV taking Van Persie's top as he and the former Arsenal striker walked towards the tunnel at the break and Wenger was left stunned when the Brazilian strolled into the dressing room with the shirt over his shoulder.

I thought in the summer that our central midfield was the biggest worry and I still think the same. We've coped quite well with the injuries of Ade so far this season, Defoe has been playing the best football of his career. However, one injury to Dembele and we're in real trouble. It's the same as Modric last season, who luckily very rarely missed a game.

We desperately need someone who can do the Dembele/Modric job in central midfield as having only one player like that just isn't enough. Moutinho is the dream signing I suppose, but there should be plenty of players who at least can do a job in that role available for reasonable money. That would also give us another option for the attacking midfield role as Dembele could then be moved forward a bit if that was needed or wanted when both are fit or play both in a midfield 3 in a 4-3-3 if we wanted, or even if the player is solid enough defensively play both in the deep roles of our 4-2-3-1.

This remains to me the most important issue that needs sorting in January.

alderweireld is a very good player. we should do everything to reunite he and verts.

If we're after a first choice central defender then I agree,
but I don't see why we should spend so much money when we've got Kaboul, Vertonghen, Caulker already.
Dawson is the fourth choice, maybe we need to sell him and sign someone else - however, I think we'll be looking at cheaper upcoming alternatives.

In general we should save money for couple of world class players in central midfield and up front.

Eduardo tells Shakhtar's Willian to choose Chelsea ahead of Tottenham

Last Updated: November 4, 2012 9:13am

Brazilian playmaker Willian is one of the hottest properties in football and has been linked with moves to both Chelsea and Tottenham in recent months.

However, Eduardo, who spent three years with Arsenal, believes Spurs are not good enough for the 24-year-old.

"There are three clubs who are big enough and good enough for Willian - Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea," he said.

"I have recommended these clubs - no others. He needs to play at one of the best teams.

"Willian is a complete player now. He is ready to play for a big club and become a really big player.

"He should play at a top, top club because he is a class player. He can play in England, for sure.

"We always talk and watch Premier League games together.

"He asks me about England and the English game and I tell him little things."

Shakhtar travel to London to take on Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday and Eduardo admits scoring at Stamford Bridge would be extra special.

"I am a Shakhtar player and an Arsenal fan," he added. "I know if I score against Chelsea the Arsenal fans will be very pleased."

This is a good read, sums up our current midfield. As you say we need something else in there and should have bought Moutinho as soon as Modric left. I'm pretty sure he was AVB's main transfer target so lets hope Levy can redeem himself in jan and make sure he gets the deal sorted on time. We've got the money and he's the sort of player who can help the whole team

TOTTENHAM PAID €19M UP FRONT FOR DEMBELE

When domestic transfers involve substantial sums it is very rare for the fee to be paid in its entirety up front.

However, The Sweeper can reveal that Tottenham bucked the trend when they prised Mousa Dembele from Fulham in the final week of the August window.

In what one source said was a “very unusual” move, Spurs paid in cash in a single instalment after activating the €19million release clause in Dembele’s Fulham contract.

Craven Cottage chief executive Alistair Mackintosh, who was negotiating the transfer with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, knew he was in a strong position.

“It is not very often that Levy is out-manoeuvred but Fulham knew the Modric money was burning a hole in his pocket and that there was competing interest in Dembele from Manchester United,” the source explained.

“For a domestic transfer of this magntitude to be completed in one hit is very unusual.”

The 23-year-old England striker is on loan from victims with the option of a permanent £17million deal next summer.

Bearing in mind this clown's success rate in the summer - we can conclusively state the truth is exactly the opposite of what he says

Players happy - Carroll staying at West Ham
