But surely a businessman would see spending 22-24m on a player as a better investment than 14m on two poor players? Firstly the better player will help improve the team, secondly may help to bring in additional revenue by helping us get CL and thirdly a player of a higher quality will maintain his value.
I agree with your sentiments that they are all businessmen and spurs is a business as well as a football club
I would actually rather we spent 2 x $14M than 1 x $28M
A $14M player should still be bloody good. If you go the 1 x $28M player, you're really putting all your eggs in one basket. What if he flops? Gets injured?
I guess it all depends on circumstances. When we made CL, I think a $28M player (striker) would have been the preferred option as the squad was set.
Now, there are more than a few holes, and some key players who have left. It's going to take more than a $28M player who, let's face it, isn't quite good enough to attract the attentions of the Big $$$ clubs.
