If they care so much about wanting to be better that they are taking extra measures and seeking the answer amongst themselves.The absoloute state of them if that's true - crying in the changing room because they aren't playing well a team full of fannies who perfectly reflect the fanbase

Most fans are emotionally attached to their club, rather than any particular team. If your emotional "investment" is so easily turned on and off, then your emotional investment is probably pretty shallow.
