The Goon Thread

Wow, this thread is quiet. Over the last fortnight, the Goons have cut their nose off to spite their face.

It is like a marathon runner cutting off 8 toes, selling his trainers and saying "don't worry, everything is fine".

I am LOVING IT!!!

Out on his Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez has been touted around the big clubs of Europe by his people as far back as the second half of last season, but the wage demands were so big that no-one bit. Until now, that is. With a few hours to go on deadline day, Emirates Marketing Project are said to be keen to land him.

But the prime movers in this transfer don't seem to be Sanchez and his agent. Or even Pep Guardiola and Emirates Marketing Project. It's the rest of the Arsenal team. Sanchez has become so unpopular with his teammates that some of them have now made it very clear to club bosses that they want him out today.

The goons look strong in the forward positions but a really weak squad at the back. They will struggle over the course of the season imo.

Very weak at the back. They were playing Monreal in Alderweireld's position in a three last I saw them. That's not going to work out.

They are reasonably well stocked up front but I wonder why they didn't try to strengthen their backline.

Yep. They could sneak top 4 if they are very lucky/if ourselves and Liverpool struggle but they will finish roughly where they usually do. If you do the same things every year in the same manner you will get the same results.

I read somewhere (can't remember where though) that there is a bit of a civil war going on.
Basically, Gazidis wanted him replaced or at leats a DOF working with him as he could finally see the light with Wenger's plodding ways.
However, whilst one or two on the board were prepared to back him on it (and not renew Wenger's contract) the main guy Kroenke overruled them and Wenger 'won' as it were with is new contract.

The same article/post also said Wenger has been unhappy with buys that had apparently been made via StatDNA , some kind of football stats software (or analytical hub?) ad had wanted to boot out several who he percived to have been bought against his wishes using their information, by Gazidis.
Apparently this includes the likes of Lucas, Gabriel, Mustafi, Elneny and Xhaka. Most of those apparently would have been sold/loaned out if Wenger had his way. But i think due to some of the board/mangerial politics it hasn't happened totally.
However, it might explain a) their lack of signing of further defenders b) the inexplicable benchings for thir last game at Anfield.

Whatever the reason, long may the impasse/chaos continue.
