The all new Striker thread..

Their transfer policy matters in that it makes him even more valuable to them, likely to make him more expensive than if he played for another Spanish club of similar size. Since it's almost like playing for a national side for many of the players it makes it less attractive to leave the club, so it makes it less likely that he will come and a lot less likely that he will force a move - especially to us. That again could make him more expensive.

They are in the process of building a new stadium - a large cash offer could tempt even the hardest of purists.

They have sold players before, mind you

Levy needs to kidnap Fernando and show him around the new training ground

deal done

Did you read my post?

I didn't say that they won't sell or that they haven't sold players in the past. Just that the basque factor plays a part and can make players more expensive than they would be from other clubs...

Adebayor update from Galahad:

"DL and ade agreed wages. Sticking point is the fee. We're offering 5m. City have come down a bit but still a gap of a couple of million. We can afford to pay what they're asking, and they can afford to take what we're offering, so we're hopeful that a compromise can be reached soon."

fudge compromise. Stick with 5m, they'll eventually fold.

the great thing is that the price will be anywhere between 5 and 7 million, which for Adebayor is a right royal fricken bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it would be, if he performed on a regular basis. He doesn't, hasn't done for several years and combined with age and wage demands looks nothing like an investment either. I would love to have someone like him nurturing a young upcoming striker along in a partnership, but since reports (mainly from GG mind) points to us employing a lone striker I don't want that striker to be Adebayor. All IMHO, of course, and I would love to be proven wrong.

That's just the headline figure though. You need to add on the signing-up bonus, plus whatever extra wages he's getting above what he'd get if we'd just signed him normally. The overall price will be close to neutral for whatever a player of his quality is worth. £12m - £15m or whatever.

Use him AVB.

If he's good enough. He's old enough!

(see: Rooney at Everton)

Judging by the video he seems to be small but he looks strong and looks to have a good balance like the Lavezzi's, Agueros, Tevez's of the world, of course we'd all love him to turn out as good as at least one of those three. I like the way he moves around the pitch and he definitely knows where the goal is which is of course very good for a striker.

Also, who the fudge crossed that ball at :37 seconds, thats class.

yes, but compare that with someone like LLorente lets say, a player of similar quality.......30 mill transfer fee, signing up bonus, 120k + wages a week, and you can see why Adebayor with a transfer fee of 5 mill becomes very reasonable.

you could never buy a striker of his quality, reputation and experience for 5mill these days

[h=1]Adebayor: Trouble man or the best £5m Tottenham will spend?[/h]
By DAN RIPLEYPUBLISHED: 13:30, 14 July 2012 | UPDATED: 13:32, 14 July 2012

After having only one recognised striker in Jermain Defoe, Tottenham have boosted their attacking ranks by signing Emmanuel Adebayor from Emirates Marketing Project in a £5milllion deal.
The striker enjoyed a successful loan spell at White Hart Lane last season under Harry Redknapp but it remains to be seen if he can produce similar strong performances under Andre Villas-Boas.
The former Arsenal star has been accused of not giving 100 per cent effort in the past, so Sportsmail has evaluated all of the 28-year-old’s Premier League seasons to see if Spurs have a bargain on their hands or a whole load of trouble.

Deal me in: Emmanuel Adebayor has permanently joined Spurs

At a time when the Gunners were struggling to get a grip on a Champions League spot, Adebayor arrived at Highbury mid-way through the season in a £7milllion deal from Monaco.
It took him just 21 minutes to score on his debut in a 2-0 win at Birmingham and before the season was out he added to the score sheet in victories against Fulham, Charlton and Aston Villa.
The then 22-year-old made an early impression and although his top form was yet to be displayed, fans were impressed enough with the Togo striker’s early showings. It seemed a competent replacement for the retiring Dennis Bergkamp.

Stepping up: Adebayor scored at Craven Cottage in his first season with the Gunners
[h=2]2006/07 – Arsenal[/h]
After showing promise in the previous half-season, Arsenal fans were looking forward to seeing how Adebayor would develop.
The answer was slowly but the striker did pick the best moments when he did finally find the back of the net.
He struck his first goal of the season in September when he netted a late strike to seal three points at Manchester United, while he scored the first in a 3-0 win against rivals Tottenham three months later – his first of three goals in as many games against the club that season.
When the (winter) gloves were on he produced his best run, scoring in three consecutive games before Christmas. But only on one occasion did he score a brace – and extra-time was needed.
A 3-1 win at Bolton in the fourth round of the FA cup saw Adebayor net in the 13th and 120th minutes in a match that saw Arsenal miss two penalties.
It was also a season where he saw his first red card after being sent off in the 2-1 Carling Cup final defeat to Chelsea – 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
It was an inconsistent campaign from the Togo international, as he was rotated in the Arsenal attack along with Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.
Only towards the end of the season did he get a consistent run in the team which brought eight consecutive starts. But the Tottenham and Manchester United exploits had brought him fan favour.

With Henry gone it was time for Adebayor to step up and finally deliver – and he didn’t disappoint.
The campaign would mark his finest in an Arsenal shirt as he scored well over double his tally from the previous season - a natural progression from producing his best more consistently.
Between the start of December and the middle of February, Adebayor scored 15 goals in as many games.
First hat-tricks followed too, with Derby on the receiving end of two in the campaign.
The Togo international continued his fine scoring record against Spurs, firing in three goals in four games including a superb volley at White Hart Lane that was voted goal of the season.
But it was against the same opposition in the Carling Cup where cracks started to emerge. Although he scored in a 5-1 defeat, the striker had a public spat with team-mate Nicklas Bendtner which needed club captain William Gallas to tear them apart on the White Hart Lane pitch.
The end of the season brought interest from AC Milan and Barcelona, with both looking to snap up the player worth £35milllion at the time. But the Togolese striker bucked the trend of stars leaving the Emirates Stadium and signed a long-term-deal.

He stoops to conquer: Adebayor scores at Old Trafford
[h=2]2008/09 – Arsenal[/h]
With the Gunners expecting more of the same, Adebayor’s follow up season after signing a new contract proved disappointing.
The striker scored just over half the goals he did the previous campaign but added to his hat-trick tally in a 4-0 win at Blackburn at the start of the season.
The typical mid-winter burst of goals never came but a red card did after he was sent off in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in December, following a controversial clash with Alvaro Arbeloa.
By the time the New Year rolled in, fans were starting to get frustrated with the striker’s performances with many feeling there was a lack of effort in his play.
His cause wasn’t helped when a hamstring injury in a 0-0 draw at Tottenham in February (the first time he failed to score against them since 2006) kept him out for two months.
Four goals in four games followed on his return, but it failed to convince supporters of his worth.
Unable to shine in semi-final defeats to Chelsea (FA Cup) and Manchester United (Champions League) led to the relationship between player and fans falling to an all-time low.

Goal machine: Adebayor nets in the 3-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League quarter-final
[h=2]2009/10 – Emirates Marketing Project[/h]
Adebayor was still valued highly by the time he played his last game for Arsenal, with the proof coming in July 2009 when Emirates Marketing Project paid the north London club £25milllion for his services.
He started with a bang. Scoring in four consecutive Premier League games, the last coming against Arsenal where he controversially ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the irate Gunners support.
But after that, the goals trickled rather than flowed and it wasn’t enough to save manager Mark Hughes’s job, who was sacked mid-season and replaced by Roberto Mancini with the club struggling to break into the top four.
Consecutive braces against Burnley and Birmingham under the new boss were a highlight but there were lowlights too.
An FA Cup defeat at Stoke saw the striker see a straight red card after catching Ryan Shawcross with a flailing arm, while he was anonymous in two defeats against Tottenham that ultimately cost Emirates Marketing Project a Champions League place.

Run of shame: Adebayor sprinted the length of the pitch to celebrate scoring against Arsenal
[h=2]2010/11 – Emirates Marketing Project/Real Madrid[/h]
The signing of Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan saw Adebayor fall out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, as well as with Mancini.
The striker started only two Premier League games, scoring against Wolves. His only other goals for the club came in the Europa League with four strikes against Lech Poznan, including his first and last hat-trick at the Etihad Stadium.
With Edin Dzeko joining the club in January, Adebayor was farmed out on loan to Real Madrid where the striker’s fortunes only slightly improved.
He only scored two league goals up until a Champions League quarter-final with Spurs where he found his Arsenal form by scoring with two headers against the north London club.
It failed to kick-start a free-scoring period but the striker did end his time at the Spanish giants with a hat-trick in an 8-1 win away to Almeria.
Appearances: 15 (20)

[h=2]2011/12 - Tottenham[/h]
By the time Adebayor returned to City after his loan spell had expired, Sergio Aguero had been signed and his place at the club was in more doubt than ever.
But it still came as a surprise when the ex-Arsenal striker signed for Tottenham on a season-long-loan.
Sceptical Spurs fans were quickly turned around though as he settled well, scoring three goals in his first two games as the club raced into early contention for the Premier League title.
It proved to be a strong season for the Togolese striker who finished as the club’s top scorer and a healthy 11 assists in the league as Harry Redknapp’s side secured fourth spot in the table.
Four goals in his last three games ensured he ended his loan spell at White Hart Lane on a high having scored a highly respectable 17 league goals. It proved to be enough to earn him a £6million permanent transfer back to north London.

Hat-tricks: 0

That looks to me like roughly 1 in 2 over all those years + assists + the general chaos he causes in defences by running around a bit + the experience he'll bring as a senior pro + he seems a popular character to have in the dressing room.

Looks all good to me.

Statistically Adebayor is excellent.
Practically the guy can do the lot, play support, striker, bring others in, good feet, strength, heading...
The guy was responsible for 40% of our goals last season (goals and assists) and yet all everyone does is moan he isnt clinical enough.

Sorry mate, newsflash, a striker that can do all that AND bury every chance is impossible for us to get. Thin about who might offer that lot - Ronaldo?!

Adebayors lack of clinical finishing was frustrating, I appreciate, but even then just look at the package we are getting.

I do honestly think he is a bit of a streaky/form striker. I genuinely think if we played him down the middle he would get more chances, he would score more and with his confidence up? Well, we have already seen he can hit 30 in a season...
