The all new Striker thread..

Dubai I have no idea what you are trying to say? You downplay Lewandowski and Giroud as difficult to get, seemingly on the basis that they play for Dortmund (a club that has been known to sell when the time is right) and Montpellier (hardly a big name) but are somehow saying that Llorente is on even though most big clubs would be in for him?

True, because both Montpellier and Dortmund are title winners playing in the CL; ergo, they have no need to let anyone go, and their players will likely want to stay anyway. Bilbao, however ,will finish between 5th and tenth, the definition of upper mid-table, yet again. So it would theoretically be easier to acquire Llorente than it would a player from a title-winning side, no?

As for Bielsea convincing anyone to stay, he doesn't seem the type of man who does 'convincing' very well. Much more of a disciplinarian.

You mean like the way Dortmund sold Nuri Sahin upon winning the title last year?

As pointed out staying at Bilbao has nothing to do with their league position and everything to do with their Basque heritage.

Nuri Sahin had both an absurdly cheap release clause in his contract and the world's biggest club after him. I doubt Lewandowski would consider on par with Real Madrid as a potential destination.

As for Bilbao, Basque heritage only goes so far. Their wages are quite low by PL standards, and if we make a high enough offer, plus offer Llorente the chance of playing in the CL, something he's never done, who's to say he won't be tempted? Plus, they're building a new San Mames, and would probably quite like to get the money, if it's high enough.

Is Olic still on a free in the summer?

If so I reckon our transfer dealings re strikers if we get champs league should be Defoe and Saha leaving, Defoe for decent money. Ade stays and a young striker from Europe brought in, someone like Van Wolfswinkel, and also Olic on free. Problem is it's unlikely Ade will stay I guess

Edit: There's definitely a joke about lobbing seaman with the whole Jizz talk, but can't be bothered to think it through. Feel free to.

It probably is heading towards a Bent argument (and yes, I don't rate Darren Bent at all) ;)

Other than goalscoring, which I concede, is a considerable skill, I think Gomez offers nothing to team play and it is effectively the equivalent of playing with 10 men. Bayern play a slow build-up possession-based game where Gomez is only required in and around the box. He does not need to offer an outlet or hold-up play. Could he play that role at Spurs? No, you only have to look at the contribution required from Adebayor to see what is required from a striker at Spurs.

Sorry, mate but that is utter rubbish. I've seen numerous Bayern games this season and he works very hard upfront and hussles defenders, opening up spaces for their midfieldfers, drags his man with ease, latching onto crosses, etc.

Absolutely outrageous statement

Adebayor has been below average since January bar Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Swansea - has done absolutely fudge all of note and misses tens of sitter / chances in front of goal - if half of those went in (with a poacher for example) it could have been a different picture all together.

I sincerely hope our next striker is a much better finisher than Ade.

Anybody know anything about this chap - Burak Yilmaz?
32 goals for Trabzonspor this season.

Saw him in one game this season (Turkey-Croatia) and he showed absolutely nothing, the commentators at Eurosport even said how dissapointed they were with him because he was hyped up so much

Pappis Cisse - Were we in for him? If not why?

In the transfer rumour thread way back I asked this question.

I think given our striker issues, which may become more problematic in the summer, I would be surprised/disappointed if we weren't at leat looking at him.
Respected German Football pundit, Rafael Honigstein, had said way before Saudi Sportswashing Machine bought him that he'd be a great signing and that he'd been scoring goals for fun for a team constantly fighting relegation.

?ú10M seems like it would have been good business for us.

I know he couldn't play the Ade role, but to me his control and movement is so good that he would have added something to our attck - ruthless chance conversion at the least you'd imagine.

Anybody have any views of this, from a coaching/playing point of view or perhaps a club insider/ITK point of view (perhaps the fear we may be to reliant on too many players who potentially could go to the ANC?)? Perhaps there are/were some personality issues?

Thoughts?

Harry's transfers are limited to the EPL.Jelavic was scoring brickloads of goals for Rangers but we didnt go for him either.Instead we got Saha...
