He won't make it with us, will he?

Said it many times about Kane - reminds me of Sherringham when he was young. SImilar players - tall, slim, not blssed with pace but both have/had a great touch and have a knack of getting goals. They even look somewhat alike. could well be that Kane develop later like Teddy

Was Carroll not played as a winger at Derby?

I don't know.

I didn't get that impression, though. Derby fans were complaining about their midfield being too lightweight with him in it. And that normally implies central midfield because you'd half expect wingers to be a bit lightweight.

yeah carroll often played played on the left or right side of a midfield three and the 1 time i saw him play for them he was dire

U21s: Spurs 2-2 Southampton

Our Under-21s were pegged back by Southampton as it ended 2-2 in Saturday's Barclays U21 Premier League Elite Group encounter at the new Training Centre on Saturday.

Shaq Coulthirst headed the team into an 11th-minute lead on his first appearance for the Under-21s.

The goal owed much to Dean Parrett winning possession and driving forward. He played in Cristian Ceballos and the winger provided the inch-perfect cross for Coulthirst to plant his header into the corner.

We looked well on the way to victory four minutes later. Alex Pritchard received a quick throw from Jack Barthram on the left byline and he managed to jink inside Calum Chambers before drilling past Cody Cropper at the near post.

However, Saints responded impressively and forced goalkeeper Jonathan Miles into three fine saves, down low to his left to parry ex-Spur Lee Barnard's 20-yarder, a fine tip around the post from Ben Reeves' free-kick and then a point-blank block with his legs to deny the same player.

Reeves finally rewarded the visitors' pressure four minutes from the interval, driving through a crowded box after a corner was cleared and into the bottom corner.

The second half was somewhat cagey for the first 15 minutes and Saints levelled just after the hour, Reeves making no mistake when he was sent clear one-on-one.

We then took control for the final half-hour, enjoying passages of possession and getting into dangerous positions without creating that one clear-cut chance that might have taken us to victory.

Pritchard, a constant threat down the left, had a penalty appeal waved away in the 65th minute and Ceballos played a fine one-two with John Bostock only to see his shot blocked.

It was no surprise that Pritchard then forced Cropper into the save of the match, the Saints goalkeeper down low to his left to touch away the winger's curler that looked destined for the bottom corner.

Spurs U21s (4-2-3-1):

Miles; Fredericks (Stewart, 87), Gallifuoco, Veljkovic, Barthram (Byrne, 63); Luongo, Mason (Bostock, 63); Ceballos, Parrett, Pritchard; Coulthirst.

Unused sub: McGee(GK)

Southampton U21s (4-4-1-1):

Cropper; Chambers, Martin, Turnbull, Targett; Sinclair (Isgrove, 73), Stephens, Moore, Forte; Reeves; Barnard.

Unused subs: Seidi, Johns, Young, Curtis.

Tom Carroll was a disaster at Derby. The fans were screaming for him to be dropped and their results picked up when he finally was. But he looks a decent little player for us, when surrounded by quality as opposed to dross.

So we can't read too much into Kane's underwhelming performances for Norwich. Could be that he's just not suited to the club or to the team's style of play. He did well at Millwall last season. He's only just back from a fairly long term injury. And he's still only 19. Too early to write him off yet.

Really annoyed about the sub today. I had just set up a stream to watch the 2nd half. The pundits were a bit baffled as to why he was subbed, they thought he had done OK. But it seems Harry will see out the season there and it will be a waste of time.

I know you have a life Statto but I would be grateful if you could provide an up to date list of all our loanees. Is Carroll on loan?

No, Carroll is still at Spurs.

His last game was on 14th January in the 5-1 win for the U21s against Wolves, in which he scored.

NextGen Series: Ajax vs Chelsea Tuesday 29.01.13 – 19:00 De Toekomst

The group stage has come down to its final match, and all is on the line.

The clash sees English legends Chelsea face Dutch counterparts Ajax, in a match that determines the draw for the first knock-out round.

Ten of the final sixteen clubs left are affected by Tuesday’s outcome, making it a vital match. Depending on results either side could find themselves travelling to Spain to face Barcelona, Ajax could face Spurs or Chelsea could face Aston Villa, amongst other possibilities. The draw will be announced directly after the final whistle.

Ajax came into the season as one of the teams to beat after their scintillating run last year carried them all the way to the final, where they were eventually beaten on penalties by Inter. Their attacking, quick-tempo football created goals and earned them the support of many neutrals along the way. After dominating matches such as their 5 -1 victory over Fenerbahcè (click here to view highlights) many players such as Viktor Fischer (click here for more on Fischer) and Davy Klaassen began to get noticed. This season both teenagers now feature in Ajax’s first team plans.

Despite only being Chelsea’s debut season, the Champions League holders came in with their own credentials. Having produced talents such as John Terry, Ryan Bertrand and Carlton Cole, their academy is renowned for developing English talent. In recent years not only have they produced players of such calibre, but two F.A Youth Cups in the last three years have proven their competitive edge at this level.

Drawn in Group 3 with PFC CSKA and Molde, Ajax and Chelsea were perhaps expected to be the two battling for first place. Russian giants CSKA, however proved to be one of the stand-out teams of the season and a series of professional performances leaves them top of the group (click here to see how it currently stands). Composed displays from their defence meant they conceded just five goals, a feat that only Ajax and Chelsea managed to beat. However it is these sides’ goal scoring that has grabbed the headlines so far.

After results such as a 5 – 0 victory over Molde (click here for highlights) it is Ajax’s Viktor Fischer (last season’s joint top scorer) that leads their scoring with four goals in just two games, followed by dynamic midfielder El Hasnoui with two. If Fischer continues to feature in de Boer’s first team plans it is likely the home side will turn to 17-year-old Queensy Menig to lead their front line. The young Dutch forward has been at the club for over five years now, and has already scored in the Series – he will be one for the Chelsea back line to watch.

Interestingly one of the players Chelsea are likely to turn to for inspiration is Dutch youth international Nathan Ake. The versatile defender can also play in midfield and has even captained his country at youth level, while his presence at the back has helped Chelsea concede just three.

At their opposite end it will be players such as Scottish youth international Islam Feruz, who leads their scoring with two, who they look to for goals. Due to their style of attacking as a group, Chelsea score with a range of players from all positions; they bettered Ajax by beating Molde 6 – 0 at home (click here for highlights) and in doing so shared the six goals between five players.

The knock-out fixtures all come down to this encounter. Two of the highest scoring sides pitched against each other with the clubs of Europe watching.

I watched parts of the first half, he looked alright.

I suppose he was brought off because Holt is better and they were struggling.

Seems again to be a pretty decent all round player, two footed, good close control, can play a pass, decent first touch. I think he really needs a goal to up his confidence a bit, he had one decent shot with his left inside the box in that first half after a good first touch to create space for himself. The shot was heading towards the corner or just outside (didn't get a good replay), but was blocked by a defender. Kane had that "what the hell do I have to do to get a goal at this level" look on his face.

I think he's more likely to get games for Norwich than for us at this point so I don't think it's a waste of time for him to stay there.

Random question, but is the striker on the latest spursofficial video about Gareth Bale's INCREDIBLE save, Alex Pritchard? Can't figure out who it is.

Maybe Hughton has been on the phone to HR. Obviously Norwich need goals and an experienced striker is more likely to score them than Kane. But if Kane scores then the bosses won't buy the experienced striker. Maybe after the window HK will get games (and hopefully goals.)
