The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

I have never got a "buzz" off Townsend that he could be a Spurs player. He will certainly be a top class championship maybe EPL player same as Rose.

Would love to be proved wrong, of course

Agree with that. Personally I cant see Rose or Townsend being regular starters for a PL team - maybe a squad player for one. More likely to be a starter for a team in the top half of hte championship which every now and then gets a year in the PL before being sqiftly relegated. Shouldnt be a surprise though as you rarely get more than a couple players from each group of a youth team coming through to PL level

U-21s v Stoke City today:

Miles

Fredericks Hall Luongo Veljkovic

Parrett Mason

Pritchard Ceballos Townsend

Obika

He's not - clubs are allowed to field a certain number of overage players (one goalkeeper and three outfield players)

In his case, he's 32.

That's taking the Michael slightly, if that's the case then we could give Friedel a run in the U21 side to stay match fit if Lloris is given a run in first team.

You're right it is. A couple of 22 and 23yr olds yes, but a 32yr old? That is taking the rip

Well yes and no.

The competition used to be called the Reserves League up until last season (Spurs didn't compete in it), so the changes to have it mainly for U-21 players is a very positive step forward for player development.

But you still need to give older players coming back from injury some kind of competitive run-out before they play in the first team again, so this is the ideal opportunity for it.

Twitter / SpursOfficial: Just got further updates after some technical issues. Currently 4-1 to Spurs U-21's. More on the goals to follow!

  • 48. Townsend broke down the left, Parrett's shot landed at feet of Ceballos who slotted home to make it 2-1.
  • Then two goals in a minute for the Spurs U-21's. First Townsend upended in the box, Mason slotted home the pen for 3-1. 57 minute
  • And a minute later Townsend, left side, cuts in on his right foot and drove home from 10 yards to make it 4-1 to Spurs.

Fair point.

If only he could perform like that for the senior side, hopefully just needs a bit more experience.

Thought he was excellent at Carlisle, but not really done too well yet against better quality opposition. I think he is a great option against tired legs in the final mins of a game, Villa match springs to mind, think he had a little cameo at the end and should have had an assist
