The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

Ah cheers for that.

Still feel like the only way for someone like kane to get a proper chance at being a success here would have to be in the Europa league again, if he performed at a high level in the group stages of that competition and the early stages of the carling cup next season he'd probably get a chance but as it stands, finishing in Europa would be a bit brick.

I always wonder how good these strikers are of ours, like the Lancaster lad for example. He came on at a time in a match where we were already 3 up IIRC and had a couple of good touches and did fairly well, I reckon had Bale not been on the hunt for a hatrick he'd have probably bagged one on his debut as well. But if he'd started the match would he have been able to do so well? It's a completely different kind of pressure when the game is still alive. Is he being kept in case Ade Defoe Saha, VDV and Gio get injured? At present that seems the only way he'd be able to get on the pitch, seems strange not to have loaned him out somewhere, surely he could be doing leyton orient a job.

Edit: Lancaster's twitter refers to him having to get a scan for some sort of injury so I guess that's the problem at the moment...

80' Save (Block)
70' Save (Catch)

DAVID BUTTON (Barnsley) 20.03.2012 vs Crystal Palace (A) 0-1 (L) Championship (Round 38)
Joined the club the day before on an emergency one-month loan deal, which will cover six games, to stand-in for second choice keeper David Preece who is out injured for the season and to cover for first choice keeper Luke Steele. Tykes fans were puzzled by the loan and felt their youth keeper should have sufficed for the bench, however it turned out that Luke Steele has also suffered an injury so Button was brought in and played in this match. He had little to do but conceded a late goal in injury time.

(Luke Steele tweet) Gutted i'm injured and not playing tonight hopefully wont be out too long...good luck to the new lad and all the others.

That's why Button was brought in, makes sense now.

Goalkeeper David Button, drafted in on an emergency loan, made his Tykes debut due to injuries to Luke Steele and David Preece.

Scannell was left unopposed to head past Button.

Can't remember Button having a save to make.

"I barely had a save to make. The defence were excellent at keeping Crystal Palace at bay. I was impressed with our defending and how comfortable we were."

JORDAN ARCHER (Bishop's Stortford) 21.03.2012 vs Stevenage (H) 3-0 (W) Herts Senior Challenge Cup (Semifinal)
Kept his 10th clean sheet of the season as Stortford now have a second cup final to look forward to, against Oxhey Jets on 18 Apr 2012, after beating a Stevenage side containing seven first teamers. The club have now also brought in 20-year old goalkeeper Aldi Haxhia, who spent 4 years in the Chelsea youth squad, for cover.

Except for a couple of saves late on Jordan Archer had little to do.

A good diving save to his left by Archer stopped a 20 yard shot.

OSCAR JANSSON (Shamrock Rovers) 20.03.2012 vs Cliftonville (A) 0-2 (L) 3-1 (W on pens) Setanta Sports Cup Quarterfinal, 2nd Leg
Once more the penalty hero, saving two penalties in the shoot-out and having his best game for the club so far. Shamrock now play Derry in the semifinal, first leg at home on 16 Apr 2012 and second away on 23 Apr 2012.

Once again Jansson was quick off his line to clear.

Oscar Jansson dived to his right to save Caldwells kick.

Jansson then kept out Donnelly's kick.

For what it's worth I think Janson's distribution is better than Thompson's and it would appear he is good at saving penos.

Reports from the game that Jansson was excellent even before the shoot out.

Oscar played well tonight, good to see. His best game in the hoops so far.

I know it's only gamecast updates but it sounds like Jansson's had a good game.

Man of the match on extratime.ie.

Jansson was fantastic, made some terrific saves/stops and interceptions.

Delighted for Jansson with his performance tonight and 2 penalty saves to top it off will give him a good deal of confidence heading in to Friday.

We're through/ Oskar is a hero.

Great Oscar, you are a super keeper, just show them.

Oscar was by far the motm. not at fault for either of their goals.

STEVEN PIENAAR (Everton) 21.03.2012 vs Arsenal (H) 0-1 (L) Premier League (Round 29)
Back in the team after being cup-tied over the weekend and booked for a bad foul on Theo Walcott.

Cahill and Pienaar made up about half of our 19 interceptions, often pressurising Arteta's routes out and in.

I think Jelavic would benefit from Pienaar playing just behind him. He is really the only player in our squad who has the ability to play a defence splitting pass.

Pienaar - 6 Was a bit poor last night. Think the cup is disrupting him. A lot better when moved into CM at the end.

ANDROS TOWNSEND (Birmingham City) 20.03.2012 vs Portsmouth (A) 1-4 (L) Championship (Round 37)
Not much joy in this match as another poor defeat for Birmingham has seen their recent form drop them out of the play-off places to 7th however still only 2 points behind 4th.

For the opening 20 minutes, Blues found success on both wings, with Andros Townsend and Chris Burke frequently beating the Portsmouth full-backs and swinging in tricky crosses.

The St. Andrew's outfit started well after the interval and almost doubled their lead when Townsend played in King.

66' Subbed On

THOMAS CARROLL (Derby County) 20.03.2012 vs Brighton (A) 0-2 (L) Championship (Round 38)
Once more on the bench but brought on in the second half, however was unable to make an impact.

Explain to me the purpose of bringing Caroll in again, we are not going to sign him, we werent good enough for the play offs, we were on a 6 game unbeaten run, so why bring in a a player from another team and play him ahead of our own.

When the team is well on top he can and does show some elements of creativity. However when the team is not on top he struggles as he is lightweight and does not have time on the ball as he is used to. He was brought in to simply try and create opportunities. It has not worked.

Now even the most blind faith Clough fan, must admit that both bringing neither Maguire or Carroll has worked.

If only we hadnt messed around playing Tom Carroll during our losing streak we could now be closing in on the play offs.

Cannot see any big issue with Carroll having his run in the side. He is a kid of obvious talent who can spot and deliver a pass. NC recognises that we need a bit more craft in the side so he brought him in, unfortunately Carroll apart from a few flashes has not really hit the mark so NC took him out of the side.

Carroll may put a few kilos on and come back next season and be a real star for us..... too early to write him off.

I think we stuck with Carroll for too long.

Carroll came with a reputation for being a fantastic passer of the ball and someone who can create. Under different circumstances i.e a team that is playing with confidence, Carroll my well flourish.

83' Subbed Off

THOMAS CARROLL (Derby County Reserves) 21.03.2012 vs Nottingham Forest Reserves (A) 2-1 (W) Central League Central Division (Round 9)
Played 83 minutes in this reserve fixture the next day, as Derby were short of players. Played well and made an assist for the first goal.

Four of the five substitutes from the previous night's first-team match at Brighton started – Ball, Tom Carroll, Ryan Connolly and keeper James Severn.

Carroll's free kick was headed in unchallenged by Ball from inside the six-yard box.

The visitors almost had a third 10 minutes before the break when Carroll waltzed into the area, only to be denied by a fine diving save from Evtimov.

RYAN MASON (Millwall) 20.03.2012 vs Doncaster Rovers (A) 3-0 (W) Championship (Round 38)
Was in the squad of 19 that went to Doncaster but did not even make the bench in the final 16.

YAGO FALQUE (Southampton) 20.03.2012 vs Hull City (A) 2-0 (W) Championship (Round 38)
Did not feature in this game as he was away with the Saints U-21s again for a match against a West Ham XI.

YAGO FALQUE (Southampton U-21s) 20.03.2012 vs West Ham XI (A) 1-0 (W) U-21s (Friendly)
His third game for the U-21s, following on from the game against a Crystal Palace XI a week ago and he put in another good performance.

Barnard struck from the spot in the 70th minute after Yago Falqu?® had been brought down inside the area following the Spaniard's mazy run into the box.

In fairness, Southampton did create the clearer chances, with Falque controlling proceedings from the centre of the midfield.

Late on, Falque himself went close with a quickly-taken free-kick, but Baxter flew to his left to push the ball away.

DEAN PARRETT (Yeovil) 20.03.2012 vs Charlton Athletic (A) 0-3 (L) League One (Round 38)
Started his first game since his sending off against MK Dons on 06 Mar 2012 and was subbed off on 69 minutes. Yeovil's recent good run came to an end after a tiring run of fixtures finally took their toll against the club Parrett was out on loan to last season. He has stated in an interview he would consider a switch to Yeovil next season.

Yeovil Town makes a sub: Keiran Agard enters for Dean Parrett. Reason: Tactical

Dean Parrett also looking lost in a supporting role.

Gavin Williams looked to tee up Parrett from 30 yards, but the midfielder’s run-up allowed Darel Russell to steal possession and launch a fruitless counter-attack.

Parrett kept giving the ball away.

Parrett believes moving west until the end of the season represents a step in the right direction.

"I was there last season and I think I had quite a good spell there," he said.

"I really enjoyed it and it was one of my better loan spells. I can hold my hands up and say Plymouth was not the best for me and I did not get the best from it, but Charlton was definitely good and was a stepping stone for here and for my first six games where I did not do too badly.

Despite currently facing a battle to pin down a place in the starting XI, Parrett refused to rule out a longer stay next season if a bid was tabled.

"I am just thinking about the end of the season and the next game and if I can get back in the team first," he said.

"If Gary Johnson comes knocking again that will definitely give me something to think about. Yeovil send videos back across to Tottenham so they can keep tabs on what we are doing.

"I get a little bit of feedback from them every now and then but I am down here at the moment and I am a Yeovil Town player. I do not really think too much about Spurs at the moment."

"I had a good six games before I got injured and I am just raring to go again," he said. "Hopefully I can get back in as soon as possible.

"I got sent off in the game before S****horpe so it is a learning curve and I did not expect to get straight back in. Hopefully as soon as possible I will be back and I have got to take my chance as soon as it comes.

"I have enjoyed my time here and I think the injury slowed me down, which was disappointing and then I got sent off. I am just hoping to get in for the rest of the season and try and get as many games as possible.

Boss Johnson backed Parrett to shine between now and the end of the season but said he would have to work hard to reclaim a starting berth.

"He is in our thoughts," said Johnson. "He has missed out because he got taken off, he got sent off and then he did not play in the next game.

"He knows that everybody has got to work to get back into the first team, especially when things are going well, and he is no exception."

HARRY KANE (Millwall) 20.03.2012 vs Doncaster Rovers (A) 3-0 (W) Championship (Round 38)
Back in the starting line-up along with Keogh and Henderson and scored with a long range effort from 35 yards to make it 2-0.

Harry Kane doubled the lead with a speculative strike from distance that deceived Carl Ikeme.

Ikeme failed to keep out a powerful long-range effort from Kane that appeared to go through the hands of the goalkeeper.

It was 4-4-2 with Kane on the left.

Kane is a very talented young player more talent than Lowry or Keogh IMO.

I'd also add that Kane is the sort of player I'd be prepared for us to spend a fair bit on.

Money dictates a lot but Kane for me seems to have a good attitude and getting games and the opportunity to be the star man in our side as a big factor in terms of us getting him on a season long loan next season.

Kane's goal was an absolute cracker.

Kane is quality would love us to hang on to him.

JONATHAN OBIKA (Yeovil) 20.03.2012 vs Charlton Athletic (A) 0-3 (L) League One (Round 38)
Dropped after his poor game against Walsall.

I think Obika needs to play. When he does Andy Williams gets more involved in the game, he's only been on this scoring run since Obika returned from injury.

When Obika plays Andy Williams does better but maybe it was a tactical move to drop him tonight especially with games coming thick and fast.

john bostock in league 2.... oh dear

Swindon Town have signed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder John Bostock on loan until the end of the 2011/12 season.

Bostock joins the Robins after spending a four-game loan spell with championship side Sheffield Wednesday earlier this year.

He joined Spurs from Crystal Palace in July 2008 with a ?ú700,000 fee taking him to White Hart Lane. Bostock made his professional debut for the Eagles when he came on as a second-half substitute against Watford in October 2007. He went on to make a further two starts as well as two appearances as a substitute for the Championship club.

He made his Spurs debut when he came on as a second half substitute during the UEFA Cup group match with Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16 years, 295 days.

The midfielder continued his progression by making further first team appearances as a late substitute in both legs of the UEFA Cup tie against Shakhtar Donetsk in February 2009.

He then made 11 appearances on loan for Brentford in the 2009/10 season before a similar spell at Hillsborough.

Bostock has been handed squad number and is eligible for Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final against Chesterfield.

Swindon are top of the league at least and looking good for automatic promotion. Paolo Di Canio won't take any brick either.

well he could play at wembley this season and i doubt we will, he really needs to do something this season and get a good loan under him next year or he will not make it as a pro footballer.

he will make it. Mark Gower was our great hope once, went to Barnet and worked his way up, moved to Swansea and now is rocking the suburbs with some fine performances.

he might not play for Real Madrid is what you mean

Indeed he could play on Sunday in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Chesterfield, the team which pretty much ended his Wednesday career.

bostock generally plays well on his debut, often scoring before finding himself out the side. if he plays on sunday, wouldnt suprise me if he has a blinder

Bassong, Caulker, Pienaar, Button and Kane start

Naughton surprisingly on the bench.

Carroll and Oyenuga on the bench.

Mason and Falque not in squad.

Parrett not in the squad, he announced yesterday on twitter he is returning to Spurs on Monday and Yeovil only able to put 4 on the bench today.

did parret have a fall out or something?

I'm not sure to be honest, there's nothing official yet but Yeovil did sign a 7th player on loan on the same day and you're only allowed 5 in the match day squad, maybe they needed bodies in another position so Parrett loses out.

Found this from WindyCOYS.

Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson has explained by he is looking to return midfielder Dean Parrett to White Hart Lane on Monday. The Tottenham Hotspur player is not included in this afternoon's line-up against Hartlepool United and has already stated on Twitter that he will leave the club after the weekend.

Johnson has told BBC Somerset that it is the form of Ed Upson and Dominic Blizzard that is making him look forward to the 2012-13 season, and with League One safety now only a few points away, the Glovers boss wants to look at next season. Needing to drop two loan players for every match at present, and with Upson and Blizzard his preferred central pairing, Johnson explained it wouldn't be fair on Parrett to keep him sat in the stands:

"Well of course you can't keep all seven (loans). With Dean Parrett, we're talking with him at the moment, and Tottenham, about going back to Tottenham. That's because what I want to start doing, is I want to start keeping a team together, if I can, that can go into battle for next season. Ed Upson, Dominic Blizzard, Gavin Williams and even Woodsy (Michael Woods) are all people that I want to fight for a place in our squad for next season. I think that Ed and Dominic have done very very well so far, and I want to keep them as the midfield two at the moment. It's not fair to have a Tottenham player who is not getting regular games."

Johnson added that he would not be looking to return any other loan players at this stage, and explained that striker Steve MacLean and right-winger Billy Gibson's loans to Cheltenham Town and Braintree Town respectively would see them end their time at Huish Park, with both out of contract at the end of the season:

"I don't mind having six (loans) because of injuries. We've got a small squad anyway, and if one of the loanees gets injured then at least I've got another to use. Steve MacLean has obviously gone to Cheltenham, and Billy Gibson has gone to Braintree. They needed games as well, but with all due respect they are not in the plans for next season."

Kings of Europe! Inter Milan beat Ajax to win inaugural NextGen final

Inter Milan were crowned NextGen Series champions after beating Ajax at Leyton Orient's ground.

After the two sides could not be separated, the Italians held their nerve in the penalty shootout to emerge victorious in what has been billed as the Champions League for kids.

There were 2,500 fans at the Matchroom Stadium to witness upcoming talent who could turn into the stars of tomorrow.

Samuele Longo fired Inter in front in the first half when his effort from Daniel Bessa's pass crept inside the post past Ajax goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart.

But Ajax - who beat Liverpool in the semi-finals - levelled shortly after the break when Stefane Denswil lashed a 30-yard free-kick into the net.

The teams were still level after 120 minutes, so the match was decided by penalties. Inter keeper Rafaelle Di Gennaro was the hero thanks to his saves from Joel Veltman and Nick de Bondt. Longo fired home the winning penalty

..............

and to think we smashed 7 past Inter in the group stages

damn whoever made that error that saw us having to withdraw from the competition

i watched the final and it was a tight game, ajax were slightly the better team but inter are a big strong side.
yes it was great to beat inter 7-1 but in the return leg they should have beat us 7-1, but overall we done well and played the champions twice and didnt lose so its a shame we didnt progress, next year the competition is expanding with teams like utd, chelsea, arsenal, madrid entering
