The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

Me and the missus hoping to pop down to Salford on Monday night to catch the U21s v United. Would be nice to see Kaboul in action, fingers crossed.

Good to see Pritchard get some match time again after his injury. Still some games left in the Championship and time to make an impression again.

A few words on Danny Rose's performance from yesterday's Tyne–Wear derby.

Do you think he has accepted his future is at LB now? I'm pretty sure when Harry started giving him games there Rose said in an interview that he would obviously play where asked but thought of himself as a better midfielder. I wonder if regular game time at full-back has persuaded him it's for the best now?

As good as he seems to be playing, as that article shows, there's still most definitely a moment of madness in him.

Really silly challenge on Debuchy which could have cost his team, like his challenge on Hutton did for us. To be fair, not that I'd wish injury on a player but if you are going to two footed challenge a player, Alan Hutton isn't the worst player to do it to but he needs to get that part of his game sorted out before he'll be able to be 1st team Spurs player. Very happy he's getting a good amount of game time and doing well up there though

Agree with the points on Rose's development - think this season he has come on a lot, though he did also play very well in the few games at the end of the season before last when Benny was out.

Would be good to have him back at WHL next season. I dont see him as good enough to be first choice however he is definitely good enough to keep the first choice LB, whether thats Benny or someone else, on their toes and also start 20+ games (I'm assuming the first choice plays all league games and Rose all domestic and european cups, though there would obviously be some rotation).

More generally, its good to see that, whilst the majority of younger players haven't come on leaps and bounds yet when on loan, people like Caulker, Rose and Townsend have benefitted massively from playing regular football and those 3 should be important squad members next year.

Hopefully next season a few others like Luongo, Smith, Fryers and a couple others can progress as well

Will be an interesting game tonight between Spurs/Man Utd U21s, I believe it is also on MUTV.

Wonder if Kaboul will get another run out? Perhaps make the bench for Sunday!?

Probably left back, but I'd say if a Premier League team offered him a first team spot as a winger he'd take it. If he comes back next season to us I think he's got to be willing to take a role like Naughton took this season: back-up, but back-up for a couple of positions because of his versatility. He'd have a shot at left back too; neither Naughton or Benny have really made it their own this season.

I have no doubt Assou-Ekotto will be off in the summer. Danny Rose will be moved to permanent left back until we go and buy our left back replacement which could end up being Perriera from Inter Milan considering the love-in between him and AVB.

Cant imagine any PL team would want him as a LW given that no-one will have seen him play as one for a couple years

Next season's full backs in the squad should be Walker and Naughton on the right and Benny and Rose on the left. That should be good enough for where we are in the league - dont see any point trying to replace Benny just on the basis of an average season for him nor replacing Walker given his potential. Besides, regardless of Cl qualification, we wont have piles of cash to spend and there are bigger priorities further up the pitch

Would also mean that we can loan our Fryers, though only to a PL team; perhaps keep Smith and loan and Naughton though realistically I think both Smith and Naughton could do with a full season of PL football to help their development

Given the need to signone or two quality forwards and a decent midfielder, I really cant see we'll have the cash to start upgrading ourfull backs
