The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

Ceballos, Coulthirst and Veljkovic in the squad for Basle.

I've said it before but Veljkovic must be highly rated by the coaching staff. Only six months or so past his 17th birthday. Has always played comfortably above his age group since arriving at Spurs. And now in the first team squad - albeit that he's unlikely even to make it on to the bench tonight.

Interesting...

Central defender who was born and raised in Basel in Switzerland but represents Serbia at international level, having played for their Under-17, 18 and 19s.

Previously played for hometown club FC Basel before joining us last season.

Featured three times for our Under-18s and also in all seven of our NextGen Series matches.

Swindon manager said that 'its a matter between Spurs, Parrett and us' regarding why Parrett's loan has been cut short. Am guessing that means we haven't asked for him back and also that they simply have decided to send him back for footballing reasons....

Yes, of course. I'd forgotten that we originally signed him from Basel. That angle hadn't occurred to me!

Might have been why he was included in the preliminary squad (or whatever it's called) today, but like you say he's consistently been playing above his age group. Fixture in the NextGen last season I believe at 16 and quite a few games for the u21 team this season iirc. Definitely seems like one to keep an eye on.

Not saying your wrong, but what out of the info given there would make you jump to that conclusion?

Because the Swindon manager said that he didnt want to elaborate on the reasons and that it was between them, Spurs and Parrett. It implies that its not simply a matter of him not being what they need or injury or various other reasons which you would typically give

Sounds more like a personal issue to me. Like he slept with the chairmans daughter or something.

Midfielder Dean Parrett's loan spell at Swindon Town has ended according to BBC Wiltshire.

Parrett appeared in three games for Town but had difficulty passing the ball to his team mates during his short spell.

It is thought after Tuesday's match wtih MK Dons where Parrett played 69 minutes, that manager Kevin MacDonald had seen enough and sent Parrett packing back to his parent club.

Ridiculous! Though the one Swindon game I saw he did just run with it whenever he got the ball....

Really don't get the Coulibaly loan.

Once again Grossetto are losing, once again he's not come off the bench.

Always easy to judge these loans in hindsight, not as easy before you see what happens. Not easy for the club to know how it will turn out, will always be a bit of a gamble I think.

He was living in Italy for a while before we signed him, might have been a bit homesick and that could have factored into our decision to send him there too.

I've wondered a couple times how good the younger players would be if you threw them into the deep end, similar to how Fergie did with the Beckham generation a few years back.

Would love to see a parallel universe where we decide that, in order to finance the new stadium outright in one go, we sell Bale, Lennon, Defoe, Ade, Sandro etc etc for £200m and use people like Carroll, Townsend, Smith, Caulker, Kane, Rose, Luongo, Ceballos etc alongside a few older wise heads like Dawson. Would we really do that much worse that some teams at the bottom end of the league? When I've watched our younger teams a couple times, they seem to play very good football

I really hope Swindon grab a play-off spot, but they're struggling for form at the worst time of the season. Hopefully they can still make it, would be nice to get another chance to see Byrne and, in particular, Luongo in action again for them.

This game's a couple of weeks old now, but I had a look at John Bostock playing for Toronto FC against rivals Montreal Impact if anyone's interested (link).
